Source: BBC

Respect Party candidate George Galloway has taken the Bradford West parliamentary seat from Labour, winning the by-election by 10,140 votes.

Mr Galloway, expelled by Labour in 2003, said it was the "most sensational victory" in by-election history.

Labour leader Ed Miliband said it was "incredibly disappointing" and the party needed to "learn lessons".

At the 2010 General Election, Labour's Marsha Singh, who resigned on health grounds, won with a majority of 5,763 .

I posted it well within 12 hours at 21.08 GMT.

Whether or not there was an earlier version of this article from before 8.32 GMT I can't say because I'm not clairvoyant.

I thought it was interesting news, given that Mr Galloway is well known around here, and it's therefore relevant, not just in the UK forum. If you'd rather be nitpicking about the rules, go for it. Thanks for your concern, anyway.

Given that the result is big news in the UK and Galloway is well regarded by many on here after his performance at the senate comittee hearing a few years back.

Although even at the time UK DUer's well a lot more reticent about the Galloway worship of some US DUer's. We shall see if George Galloway actually bothers attending the House of Commons this time around.

In the run up to the illegal, immoral, unnecessary war on Iraq, the guy spoke truth to power.

Too bad we don't have more like him.

The amount of lowing, moaning, and temper tantrums from both main UK political parties this event managed to generate is something to behold! Way to stay classy, you sore losers!

....whilst ignoring their own abysmal performance.

As to Labour, they loathe Galloway even more then they dislike the Tories and they are quite bitter.

The media pretty much ignored this by-election until the result came in.
