River ferry capsizes in Bangladesh

Source: BBC

A ferry carrying about 200 passengers has capsized south-west of Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, officials say.

Emergency workers and army teams are at the scene in Munshiganj district where the accident happened on the River Padma, 30km (20 miles) from Dhaka.

Reports say some 50 people have been rescued from the vessel, the Pinak-6.

Accidents are common on Bangladesh's river network and scores of people are killed every year, with overcrowding and poor boat quality often to blame.

Likewise, in our rush to send engineering jobs to Asia (and import their engineers) you have to understand that you trade quality and quality of life for the absolutely wrong headed notion that high standard test scores are an indicator of a useful, benevolent skill set. The education systems in these regions are exclusive and reward individual success over ALL other achievements. This invites class based corruption and the outcome is poverty and indifference to suffering. The US is in quite the hurry to adopt this system of education, government and the resultant work ethic. You know, to stay competitive.

On the other hand, the owner of the company is probably enjoying a good profit.
