Senate deal will end GOP hold on Obama appointments

Source: The Los Angeles Times

In a rare sign of bipartisan cooperation, the Senate approved dozens of President Obama's nominees as leaders sought to temper the brinkmanship that had developed after the president made a recess appointment earlier this year over GOP objections.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and the Republican leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, reached an agreement with the White House that allowed dozens of nominees to clear the Senate on the promise that Obama would not attempt more recess appointments as lawmakers prepare to leave for a two-week spring recess.

"This is the way we ought to be conducting business here," McConnell said.

"I agree," said Reid.

McConnell objects to consideration of Murphy nomination

This evening Senator Reid asked unanimous consent that at a time to be determined by the Majority Leader, in consultation with the Republican Leader, the Senate consider Executive Calendar #231, the nomination of Donna Mary Murphy, of the District of Columbia, to be an Associate Judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. That there be 2 hours for debate prior to a vote on confirmation of the nomination.

Senator McConnell objected to the request.

10. For that we gave up:
Thu Mar 29, 2012, 10:18 PM
Mar 2012

* killing the departments of education, commerce, labor, health

* privatization of Medicare, social security, and the postal services

* the display of the Decalogue in every federal building and all schools, public parks, and on every other tree in national lands

* repeal of all personal firearm restrictions

* prohibition of the teaching of evolution, global warming, and big bang cosmology

* personhood for the fetus

* sluthood for all single women and married women who use contraception

* all history classes must teach that Paul revere shot guns and rang bells when he notified the British

But we got some of our judicial appointments past the Republican's blockage.

Victory!!!

11. Has NOTHING to do with 'JUDICIAL' appointments, only 'administrative' appointments.

15. Did the Democrats make any bargaining demands when Bush made his recess appointments? I see

that in any so-called "bi-partisan" agreements, the Repubs. give up 10%, and the Dems. must yield 90%.

How much dumber can anyone get?
