FAA Extends Travel Ban to Israel for Another 24 Hours
Source: ABC News
The FAA announced today that they have not lifted their ban against travel to or from Tel Aviv's airport and will prohibit travel to the country for an additional 24 hours.
"The agency is working closely with the Government of Israel to review the significant new information they have provided and determine whether potential risks to U.S. civil aviation are mitigated so the agency can resolve concerns as quickly as possible," the FAA said in a statement.
This comes a day after they barred all American air carriers from flying to or from Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv following a rocket attack within a mile of the airport.
...The list of airlines that chose to follow the American air agency's guidelines extended past the U.S., with Air Canada, Lufthansa, German Wings and Air France canceling their scheduled flights in addition to US Airways, Delta and United.
British Airways and Russian carrier Rossiya continued their flights to Ben Gurion, as did Israeli's commercial airline El Al, whose planes have their own missile detection programs.

As I mentioned before on your same observation in another thread, this was what immediately came to mind when I saw the NYT breaking news banner indicating the FAA announcement.
To add - Hes about to cross his own line with us.

(129,111 posts)it's a tool in the toolbox when an opportunity presents itself. Stick vs carrot. I expect a big juicy carrot is coming soon.
There's been a boatload of disrespect hurled at the President from both Putin and Netanyahu and the spiteful actions that both have promulgated have backfired against them, sadly in the form of mass losses of innocent lives. It's the rough and tumble of politics - and in this case, at the geopolitical level.

No, Hamas has not done it yet but obviously someone thinks that they will and DUers apparently, applaud this.

(28,017 posts)What is your point? What are you trying to say? Can you use plain english in the process? Your analogy about Ukraine and a sophisticated Russian antiaircraft missile is simply inane and non-sensical.
What is even more laughable is that Russia, Syria, or Iran could sneak in a surrounded territory like Gaza, ringed by IDF troops, planes, tanks, and sensors, and set up something like a SAM 17. That is insane.
question everything
(47,487 posts)The FAA bans flight to Israel because it fears that a Hamas missile may hit a Delta airlines jet the way the Ukrainians downed a Malaysian jet last week.
Clear, so far?
DUers cheer this decision expecting that, yes, Hamas may be able to do so. You see it as a message to Israel, supporting the FAA decision why? Because you think that Hamas can do this?
Perhaps even hoping for Hamas to do so? Now this really will send a message to Israel, right?
This is sick!
Oh, and about Iranians sneaking missiles to Gaza? Here is a hint: Egypt, Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.
If this, too, is incomprehensible to you, even after googling, come back and I will explain. Again, s-l-o-w-l-y.
ChairmanAgnostic
(28,017 posts)While on the surface, the FAA's decision a can be "splained" away by the danger from Hamas, the real signal has nothing to do with that. It is the US telling Bebe, "Stop this shit, already"
