In Las Vegas, DNC chief blames Republicans for gridlock

Visiting Las Vegas, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the head of the Democratic National Committee, on Monday defended Senate Majority Harry Reids Senate leadership, saying Republicans deserve all the blame for gridlock in Congress.
Right now the Republicans reason for existence appears to be to block anything that President (Barack) Obama proposes, to stop progress, to refuse to work together, Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., said at a news conference. The my way or the highway way of politics that they are committed to is stunning.
The DNC bosss comments came in response to a question about whether Democrats and Reid, D-Nev., share the blame for little getting done in the past few months with mid-term elections set for Nov. 4. A Washington Post story over the weekend quoted frustrated Democrats saying the war between Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ken., has almost immobilized the Senate.
Wasserman Schultz, however, placed the blame squarely on the GOP, particularly in the Republican-run House where she said tea party-aligned members of Congress have blocked legislation and Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has refused to bring up proposed legislation such as immigration reform unless a majority of Republicans agree. Wasserman Schultz also weighed in on the upcoming 2016 presidential election, saying the party isnt threatened by a competitive primary as several liberal candidates are talked up as possible opponents of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the early front-runner and a centrist. Clinton has not yet announced whether shell run for president but has taken some hits while promoting her book, Hard Choices.

(79 posts)Seems like all Democrats need to campaign on this November is what Republicans across the country have accomplished in the past few years: lots of anti-abortion "loopholes" that have resulted in the closure of over 50 abortion clinics since 2010, voting restrictions/obstructions, the federal government shutdown (at a cost of $24 billion), over 50 House votes to repeal the ACA ...
Now, they're blaming Obama for the "crisis" on the Mexico/U.S. border, but what constructive steps have they taken on immigration reform?
Have they passed any meaningful legislation that's had a verifiably positive impact?

(39,405 posts)they let the GOP lead them around by the nose even when Dems controlled both the House and the Senate because Dems refused to take away the GOP ability to abuse the filibuster.
If they did that now, they could pass a flurry of good bills in the Senate, and tell voters that if they are given the house too, those bills will become law.
But the reality is too many Democratic politicians agree the GOP in principle to do anything of the sort.
