Thousands Of Pro-Palestinian Protesters Defy French Rally Ban

PARIS, July 19 (Reuters) - Pro-Palestinian protesters clashed with police in Paris on Saturday as they defied a ban on a planned rally against violence in the Gaza strip.

A Reuters photographer said demonstrators in northern Paris launched projectiles at riot police, who responded by firing teargas canisters and stun grenades. Demonstrators also climbed on top of a building and burned an Israeli flag.

President Francois Hollande earlier said he had asked his interior minister to ban protests that could turn violent after demonstrators marched on two synagogues in Paris last weekend and clashed with riot police.

"That's why I asked the interior minister, after an investigation, to ensure that such protests would not take place," he told journalists during a visit to Chad.

those inside one Synagogue were forced to barricade themselves inside. I don't think banning protests is the answer, but neither is attacking Synagogues. That's fucked up. No bravo for that.

Intifada of the suburbs, revolt of the immigrants, youth movement, uprising of the underclass, jihad of Muslims against Europe? There have been many explanations for the riots that have struck France’s suburbs in November 2005.

For Tiffany Taieb Nizard, the decision to abandon France for Israel came this month when a French-born man was accused of gunning down four people at the Jewish Museum in Brussels in an anti-Semitic attack.
t was just the tipping point. Earlier, Ms. Taieb Nizard, 32, a mother of two, says she was punched on the Champs-Élysées by a gang of Muslim girls who called her “dirty Jew.”
