Egypt blames Hamas for IDF's ground offensive

Source: JerusalemPost

The Egyptian foreign minister said Thursday that Hamas is at fault for the IDF's need to enter Gaza in a ground operation.

"Had Hamas accepted the Egyptian proposal, it could have saved the lives of at least 40 Palestinians," said Sameh Shoukri, Egypt's FM, as reported by Egyptian state news agency MENA.

Egypt had attempted to broker a truce deal between Israel and Hamas. Israel accepted the plan, but Hamas rejected the plan. The Israeli Security Cabinet on Sunday morning accepted the original Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire that, from Israel's perspective, went into effect at 9:00 am. Hamas quickly broke the ceasefire by continuing to launch rockets into Israel.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said Monday night in response an Egyptian ceasefire proposal that his movement would not accept any truce that excludes the conditions of the Palestinian groups and people.

A cease-fire proposed by Egypt? And Hamas rejects it?

How can anyone sympathize with Hamas. Is a cease-fire really all that hard to keep?

Hamas showed its hand. The Palestinians have defeated their own cause by allowing Hamas to decide how to proceed with regard to negotiating peace and cease-fires.

"We have plenty of children ready to die for gaza."

That is just nauseating. How heartless.

My mother taught me, "It's not what you have but what you do with what you have."

The Palestinians have received lots of aid money and have done nothing with it. And now, they complain that they have nothing and are victims. That is morally indefensible.

Palestinians know better than to pick fights with Israel. Why do they continue to do it?

They choose to ignore the bombs found in the UN school the other day, the tunnels into Israel, the attackers caught with explosives, the fiery speeches of Hamas leaders saying all Gazans are "human shields", the speeches calling ALL Israelis legitimate targets, etc etc.
Even the Egyptians have tired of this same old routine caused by people who refuse to even show Israel on a map. But I guess the Egyptians are "Israeli apologists" too, huh?

I have a lot of friends who have fallen for the whole anti-Israel thing. It's ridiculous. I have watched the scene in Palestine all my life because my father was very concerned about the "refugees" in Palestine. The world was full of refugees in 1949. I remember. I was a child. There are two European "refugees" who married into my family.

At the end of a war, people are displaced and told move or else. That's one of the reasons we don't want wars.

The Palestinians have lots of options. They don't choose to take them.

Change happens. We all have to adjust to it. How many times have I moved in my life. As I said, my family includes refugees. They did not want to move, but international decisions forced them to.

The Palestinians need to get with the times. If they accepted Israel, they would have a much better chance of being able to regain what they feel was taken from them. If there were peace in the area, there would be more trust and more cooperation, less fear on the part of Israelis of living side-by-side with the Palestinians.

I always wonder to what extent the Palestinian hatred for Israel is actually the same old anti-Jewish sentiment that infected Europe and is still common around the world.

So they are not good arguments.

Some Palestinians have moved on to new lives in new countries, as Some Europeans did after WW2. But most European displaced persons were ultimately resettled in their original homelands. Whole nations just don't get up and move, except at the point of guns (trail of tears, expulsion of Acadians are examples) or natural disaster (prehistoric migration due to climate change, for example).

How would you feel if you were trying to mediate between two people, or two groups, one accepted the other did not and things get worse? Egypt, like everyone else, has pride.

In another report I've read of a cartoon in an Egyptian paper saying that had Turkey or Qatar offered to mediate, Hamas would have accepted it.

It seems that martyrdom is more important than providing for their people. Yes, many lost their jobs in Israel, yes, limited supplies are going through but why should Israel accommodate them if all they get are missiles? This is a country full of Jews, they do not believe in turning the other cheek..

And you damn right they are thugs.

“Cease-fire wasn't our goal when we fought.” (Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman)

“In times of war, you don't cease fire and then negotiate.” (Fawzi Barhum, Hamas spokesman)

“The sections calling for calm are offering a free service to the Israeli enemy.” (Mushir al-Masri, a Hamas member of the Palestinian Legislative Council)

“Our battle with the enemy continues and will increase in ferocity and intensity.” (Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas)

“We will continue to bomb until our conditions are met.” (Qassam Brigades)

"Your government claimed yesterday that it ceased fire, but without agreeing to carry out our conditions, and it thinks that we will hasten to cease fire. To the contrary, we hurried to strike every place in Israel, from Dimona to Haifa, and we forced you to hide in shelters like mice. We again caution: If your government doesn’t agree to all our conditions, all of Israel will remain a legal target for our fire."

But...the "Palestinians can do no wrong" groupies will continue to condemn Israel, letting Hamas do whatever they want...

The Palestinians would receive so much assistance and international support if they didn't follow bizarre fantasies about their insane crusade against Israel.

They'd probably have peace and be on their way toward being trusted partners in at least a federation with Israel if, from the very beginning, they had accepted the partition and demanded lots of assistance to make their part of the area a great place to live.

Instead all this violence.

You describe the anti-democratic military coup that reestablished the Mubarek-era deep state, massacred hundreds of people in the street, jailed thousands of others, sentenced hundreds to death in kangaroo courts, and is now also eating up the "pro-democracy" activists who stupidly supported the coup as "getting their own house in order."

And by "the Egyptians," you mean the coup government.

And of course you hope the freaking monarch in Jordan will help.

What would improve things for the Palestinians would be the lifting of the Israeli jackboot from their necks. The occupation has been ongoing for 47 years now. If Israel wants peace, make peace.
