Federal prosecutor sends lawmakers a reminder on eve of (Pat) Quinn probe hearing

Source: Chicago Tribune

SPRINGFIELD — The top federal prosecutor in central Illinois today sent a reminder to state lawmakers on the eve of their hearing about Gov. Pat Quinn’s troubled anti-violence program: Stand down because a criminal investigation is in the works.

U.S. Attorney James Lewis, based in the central Illinois office a few blocks from the Capitol, made it clear that he wants a legislative panel to hold off 90 days before receiving testimony or conducting interviews of individuals connected with Quinn’s program, known officially as the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative.

Republicans on the Legislative Audit Commission, which has a hearing set for Wednesday morning in Chicago, and GOP governor candidate Bruce Rauner have sought to paint the botched anti-violence program as emblematic of Quinn’s leadership ever since the auditor general’s February report that questioned the initiative’s hasty rollout and poor oversight that led to misspending. The commission has subpoenaed several witnesses.

Quinn rolled out the $54.5 million program in the closing weeks of his 2010 campaign for governor in response to crime in the Chicago area, but putting money into services in areas loaded with Democratic voters invited GOP charges that the governor was simply trying to gin up support in the election.

Sheesh. Who was the last governor of Illinois NOT to have had a corruption case? Definitely not Rod Blagojevich or George Ryan...it turns out Jim Edgar had a little scandal with a management systems company.

The Trib has a long investigative piece about the anti-violence program.

should I vote for Quinn or another lying sack of ish named Bruce Rauner, a Republic0n, who is supposed to be married to a so-called democrat. They've been sending me garbage mail with Jeb Bushes name on the envelope on some of it, to a totally democratic neighborhood. Quinn is bad enough but it pisses me off just receiving mail from Rauner, a Republic0n.

I guess Rauner thought he'd try something different because the last republic0n running for Governor totally talked to every community but the Chicagoland area, and lost to them because of it. Rauner had his so-called democratic wife making an ad on TV for him and how tough he's going to be on the issues (jobs, jobs, jobs). I don't care for him or his wife, who would probably say anything to get him elected.
