Libyan women’s rights advocate Salwa Abugaigis assassinated

Human rights activist Salwa Bugaighis was shot dead by unknown assailants at her home in the restive east Libyan city of Benghazi late Wednesday, hospital and security sources said.
Unknown hooded men wearing military uniforms attacked Mrs Bugaighis in her home and opened fire on her, said a security official, who did not wish to be named.
She was shot several times and taken to hospital in critical condition, where she died shortly afterwards, a spokesman for the Benghazi medical center said.
Her husband, who was in the family home at the time of the attack, has since been reported as missing, according to a family member....

Daily, we have some right wing religious nut calling to for violence. The kind of shit that happens there, can and has happened here.
Abortion clinics have been bombed, and people died.
Abortion doctors have been murdered, one was assassinated in a church.
Gays have been tortured and murdered.
And other forms of freedom have been met with murder.
Unionists.
Civil rights workers.
It happens here, and it is, fortunately, rare. But religious extremism exists here and the constantly uses the language of violence.
There is not false equivalence. Religious extremism is a plague where ever it exists.

we mourn the loss of a sister and courageous human rights defender, Mlambo-Ngcuka said during a news conference in New York.
On his Twitter account, British Ambassador to Libya Michael Aron said he was "devastated about the horrific murder" and described Bughaighis as a "leading light of the 17 February revolution and a human rights champion."
Peter Bouckaert, Human Rights Watch's emergencies director and an expert in humanitarian crises, said Bughaighis was "one of the few" who continued to challenge the threat of Islamist militias despite increased threats and violence.
"After years of standing up to Muammar Gaddafis tyranny and defending Islamist activists, some of whom were now trying to impose their views on her and other women, she continued to stand up for herself and other Libyan women," he asserted in a report published on the website of the international rights body....
