Obscene 'Borat' anthem mistakenly played for Kazakhstan athlete
Source: L. A. Times
Maria Dmitrienko remains calm in a video posted on YouTube (see above) while listening to lyrics from the made-up song that insults other countries and touts the country's "clean prostitutes." Toward the end of the ceremony, she leaves the stage smiling, possibly realizing what had happened

If you think a male athlete would have been treated to a song touting the country's "blingy rapists", or "honest pimps" let me know.
Are there any songs sexually insulting the men of any country, while avoiding demeaning references to women? I'm honestly curious about that.
There are certainly plenty of countries whose men deserve to be sexually insulted--and insulted for their disgusting treatment of women-- so it's not like no one could think of anything.

(8,267 posts)I have to wonder if--like so many other women on this planet--Maria Dmitrienko has learned to 'laugh it off' when someone does or says something demeaning to women in general, or toward her specifically.
I cannot count the number of times I've seen sexism 'excused' as 'just a bit of humor.' I doubt that Ms. Dmitrienko interpreted this as a 'harmless prank,' but she's probably learned that most attempts to address sexism are met with derision and resentment.

(11,258 posts)...for racism and bigotry in general. He totally catches them and puts it in a video for the world to see while humiliating the bigots....in a very funny way.
Google the video "throw the Jew down the well." my jaw drops, but I laugh like hell at the same time.....or when he goes hunting on a ranch in Texas and the ranch owner publicly admits how much he would like to kill all the Jews....ranch owner also bragged about killing an animal on a hinting trip that is now extinct. Jaw dropping stuff. Leaves you speechless.
Or when he played the role of Bruno, the gay Austrian fashionista at a redneck Arkansas gun show? Google that one...Cohen backed down a bit on that one - the redneck very clearly said he would knock every tooth out of his mouth if he pushed the gay thing too far...redneck meant it too....and it was a gun show, so Cohen smartly thought the better of pushing it.

(6,670 posts)... personally, I would presume that she talked privately to whoever was in charge, and the person responsible for the prank, if prank it was, was dealt with appropriately. I just don't see that any kind of a public scene she could have made would have improved things for anyone. Now if a large number of people had got up and objected at once (which is exactly what I would expect to have seen if people were really offended and not just saving up offense to use later), then THAT could have been a profound teaching experience.
But nobody did that - they left her on her own.
And yes, I chose "hissy fit" after long and thoughful consideration of vocabulary. Because NO MATTER WHAT SHE WOULD HAVE DONE ONSTAGE, it would have come off as a hissy fit over the media. The media just works that way, and the stage just isn't the place to deal with the question.
