Occupy activists leave Oakland park

After inhabiting a city park for one day, Occupy Oakland members folded up their tents and left, but also said they would return this weekend.

Activists spent Wednesday night in Mosswood Park, where they set up a six-tent encampment. They referred to the open space at Broadway and West MacArthur Boulevard as Huey P. Newton Park, after the late Black Panther leader.

Members said they were protesting the recent arrests of Occupy Wall Street members and the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager, in a gated community near Orlando, Fla.

Police visited the park Thursday and told the dozen participants to take down their tents or risk being cited, according to protesters.
