Enid Police Get New Armored Vehicle For SWAT Team

Source: By News9.com

ENID, Oklahoma -

The Enid Police Department has a new armored vehicle to use during SWAT team activities.

The department announced Thursday morning that it took possession of an Army surplus armored Max-Pro MRAP all-terrain vehicle Monday. Lt. Gary Fuxa and Sgt. Justin Hodges traveled to Fort Carson, Colorado to pick up the vehicle, which the department will use for SWAT team activities, emergency responses and for static display at public events.

The vehicle was made available to the department through the Department of Defense Law Enforcement Support Office surplus program.

Within a week we'd see "When's the last time you knew someone nuked by a cop?!" arguments popping up. That'd last until a cop did nuke someone, then we'd have to hear about all the reasons they totally deserved it.

I might think this slow distribution of military and crowd control equipment could be a sinister plot to have the equipment on hand when the the fundi christian soldiers come marching as to war? Ala "Handmaid's Tale"?

Send it to a small city, obviously not in need of a swat team, and let the ridicule be damned! It's all part of the plan!

The department will pay a $2,500 transfer fee for the vehicle, likely coming from seized drug funds.

Gee, glad the taxpayers are getting such a bargain.

Oh, wait . . . .

offers you $700,000 asset for which you only have to pay $2500, you would say "no"?

"The vehicle is a 2009 to 2010 and has 31,000 miles, valued at $689,000. The vehicle can hold eight to 10 officers," Lt. Fuxa said.

I can see the dialog now:

Army Surplus Agency:*

Line up and get your MIC toys at fire sale prices!

Local Police Department:

Uh, you said $689K. And we know they get lousy mileage. I don't think so...

Army Surplus Agency:

What about if I cut you a deal? Look, the boss wants to get rid of these, quick!

How about $2,500? We'll even bring it out to you all gassed up, with a tune-up and a fresh coat of paint!

What do you say?

Local Police Department:

It'll look good for parades. Can we get a tax write off?

Army Surplus Agency:

Sure! In fact we'll throw in some extra parts! When can we make delivery?

Local Police Department:

Uh, make it just before some veterans' event. I think we can swing that.

And so it was done...

*I bet there is some name to the group dumping these bye-gone monsters.
