Debbie Stabenow Endorses Potential Hillary 2016 Bid

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) gave her support Thursday to a potential Hillary Clinton presidential run, making her the third sitting senator to do so.
"I'm ready for Clinton because she is the best person to take on the challenges that face our country, and she has more than enough qualifications, achievements and experience to do the job," Stabenow wrote in a CNN op-ed.
The Michigan Democrat noted that she and Clinton both arrived in the Senate at the same time, after the 2000 elections, and have known each other for more than 30 years. She went on to praise Clinton's work as secretary of state as well as her record on raising the minimum wage and ensuring quality, affordable health care.
"When America chooses its next president, we need someone who understands that people across this country are working hard and just want a fair shot to get ahead in life," Stabenow concluded. "I know that Clinton understands this because that's the America she has been fighting for all her life. That is why I am ready for Hillary Clinton -- and why America is, too."

Stabenow: Why I'm ready for Hillary
By Debbie Stabenow
updated 8:46 AM EDT, Thu May 22, 2014
Editor's note: Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan, has been in the Senate since 2001. She is chair of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee and serves on the Energy, Budget and Finance committees. You can follow her on Twitter @stabenow. The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of the author.
(CNN) -- In 2016, we need to elect a president who has the experience to hit the ground running on day one. We need someone who has walked the walk, not just talked the talk.
We need someone who is extremely competent, extremely intelligent and extremely dedicated to the men, women and children of this country. We need someone who personally knows world leaders and understands the threats and challenges facing America. We need someone who understands what middle-class families have been going through and how to give every family a fair shot to get ahead in life.
Our next president needs to be someone who knows without debate that equal pay for equal work and the full participation of women in our country is not only the right thing for them and their families, it's critical for the economic future of America.
We need President Hillary Clinton. That's why I am honored to formally announce my renewed and unreserved support for Clinton as she considers a 2016 presidential bid.

I wish we'd concentrate on the mid-terms instead of 2016. Lots of things can change (and no doubt will) between now and 2016. Personally, I hope Hillary doesn't run. I really don't want Bill roaming the halls again of the WH even though I admire his current work. Hillary is too hawkish for me.

(5,082 posts)Holy crap! They are the absolute most evil. They are the war machine. The NSA supporters. The private prison supporters. They are Bush Srs baby. They are the shady 911 underbelly. If they support it then it's EVIL. Period. They want Jeb vs Hillary because they win either way. If you are a Democrat and in any way connected to or supported by this IranContra, IraqWar,911 loving group then I do not understand how you haven't been kicked out of the party. 20 years ago it would've been unthinkable. Are people just so hypnotized they forgot who these people are??????????

(5,082 posts)That in college Hillary was president of the Young Republicans? That she campaigned for Barry Goldwater and later Richard Nixon. She supported Nixons impeachment and before that switched parties because her friends were dying in Vietnam. Just an interesting fact. Hell, I was a Republican until I turned 18 in college but at least she switched at age 22 due to racism in Nixon's staff and their in fighting with Nelson Rockefeller. I do believe, however, that the Carlyle Group does support her and as Wall St indicated last month it is a Win-Win if they get rewarded with a Bush vs Clinton election.

(5,082 posts)People need to educate themselves. Our party was hijacked in the late 80s but the chameleons were still underrepresented then. They really took over I believe around when Sen Paul Wellstoned plane went down. They want one party...the War Party. The reason we even have a radical Tea Party is because so-called moderate democrats allowed the center to moved to the right. When you move the center to the right it means the far right moves further right too. Do people get it now??? We all act like we don't understand how right wing nut jobs are taking over. It's OUR FAULT!!! Maybe we should stop censoring far left critics here who question those who like cozying up to power and support wars,NSA, police oppression, corporate cooperation etc. it would be a start. No backbone with a thin skin is a recipe for failure.

(7,412 posts)Endorsements are probably already being negotiated. Department Secretaries, Ambassadors, agency directors, etc. Someone should track endorsements and then see how things fall into place once a winner is declared.

(7,358 posts)This is more about fulfilling Hillary's dream of becoming the first woman president. I mean all this pussy footing around about whether she'll run of not. Oh please. We all know whats next on her agenda .. and it's not sitting at home baking cookies for her grand baby. Let's not forget that if we want to move this country in the right direction .. we need people in congress to represent us. That's what the focus should be on now. Not whether Hillary is going to run. Frankly I don't care what the gender is of our president .. as long as they fulfill the promises that they campaign on. So far she has not been out front with any solutions.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow is a lady blessed with vision, prudence and foresight. She knows the time ahead for USA is replete with challenges, both within and outside its boarders, where this country can not hold its involvement.
Examples: Middle East burning situation, unsettled affairs in Afghanistan, fluctuating terms of relationship with China-Iran-Russia, Arab Israel dispute, Al queada threat of intrusion that hangs permanently.
To combat the eventualities , a Future leader with valor, experience, recognition with international political community is a requirement that has no room for compromise.
Debbie sees these qualities in Hillary so her eyes are fixed on her.
Further, her own gender loves her passionately; middle class follows her to see a better change in their economic conditions, politically conscious people applaud her on taking notice of the current direction the country is going and her determination to bring about a change.
The press report reproduced below substantially supports this statement.
