Ed Schultz Ends Radio Show, Moves to Web-Based Broadcast

Source: Mediaite

MSNBC host Ed Schultz announced Wednesday that he will no longer be hosting his long-running syndicated radio show and will instead host an online-only broadcast hosted on his website, wegoted.com.

The move from radio to online means that instead of hosting a three-hour radio show each day, in addition to his daily TV show on MSNBC, Schultz will only produce one additional audio hour on a daily basis. The host said the change would go into effect next Tuesday after Memorial Day and that the new one-hour show will stream for free on his website, Monday through Friday from noon – 1 p.m. ET.

“Really this change will give me more flexibility to be on the road to do the kind of shows I want to do here for The Ed Show on MSNBC,” Schultz told his audience, putting a positive spin on the change. “This is on me, you know. I just don’t want to do a three-hour talk show anymore.”

Noting that his radio career began all the way back in 1978, Schultz said, “I guess I never thought this day would come, where I would make a change like this.”

Unless she's not telling us the whole story. I know that she was the only progressive talk show host for the company that aired her. It's a shame to see her go. She will be missed by so many.
Maybe she'll come back. Who knows.

It seems we keep losing all the progressive stations around the country. Denver's station just switched over to something else; probably right wing talk. Also two stations in California went right wing. You think the Kochs have anything to do with this? No wonder the people in this country are getting dumbed down by the minute. It's just unbelievable .. and mind you, we own the airwaves folks.

Premiere Radio Networks I think... They do the Blaze web site, etc. for Beck. I heard rumors from him that Randi got caught once by after hours cameras dumping Glen Beck's ash trays around Beck's office. My guess is that over time she got a little tired of the arrangement where she was surrounded by the likes of Beck, etc.

Especially the spoken kind. Unless your PC is ANCIENT and/or you're still on dialup (in which case that's the issue, not your computer itself) you shouldn't have a problem listening to Ed's show off the internet.

Get an Android phone with an inexpensive plan. There are a few carriers that charge as low as $35 per month, and a basic smartphone can be had for less than $50. They also all have Wi-Fi capabilities to save on 3G/4G data.

Next, download an app called TuneIn. With this, you can easily find and stream a number of progressive talk stations and shows. The app also lists shows and podcasts by host. In addition, you can find plenty of web-only broadcasts.

What's more - you can plug it into your car stereo and listen while you drive.

Thu May 22, 2014, 05:16 AM
May 2014

From my view Ed Shultz is sort of like looking at the glass either half empty or half full. My reasoning is a just plain long listening developed in a philosophical nature of being, in reality, as well as the basic relations.

Especially, Ed’s relations to MSNBC, a theater characterized as news yet loaded with hate, bias, political lies, smear, deception, always eluding the truth. MSNBC have key players, and formidable anchor Journalist that are hardwired to the federal reserve, metadata collection, the treasury, and the largest corporations in America that flex every singularity of the tax code.

To be up front, honest, with the mission to serve the public under the laws of the Constitution is basically what the mainstream media has not done very well since the inception of the electromagnetic principles applied to communications. To quote a famous television journalist of the past;

“That’s the way it is” … Walter Cronkite.

Today, it is obvious, obnoxious, commercialized, social rape. On the so called free air television many can notice the proliferation of constant legal advertisements making offers to take legal action for free getting paid only if you win in court; I see this stuff all the time.

That basically reveals the tsunami of corruption in laws and legislation and the fundamental judicial system that is dominated by who ever decides to be the decider. This history always existed but cover up till now; known now because of the Internet.

The real winner is that these right and left wing screw balls that run the country have always been there it is just now we all realize what idiots we have running the country dancing for tax dollars.

Sirius /XM has Michelangelo Signorelli on in the afternoon. I don't mean to start a war here, but GAWD....he'ss-l-o-w and needs to PICK UP THE PACE!!!

His show reminds me of an overnight college station. It's abysmal. Ari Rabin Haft is on early mornings there, and he's not much better. You cannot tell me, with all the sharp young communication based progressive minds out there that Sirius / XM cannot come up with decent programming.

I stopped listening to Media Matters on the weekend...if I wanted to go to a goddamn Teddy Bear's Picnic, I would get out my unicorns and teacups! It's horrible. Maybe they don't pay their people enough, but after Stephie Miller in the morning, I'm done till whenever she's back on. Randi is gone , Ed is gone, and there is no looking back!

When I was working temp radio slots, ( insert old man pulling his pants up to JUST below his nipples... HERE) I would be put up against the likes of Rush Limbaugh...so it was Oldies versus Assies...and he won the time slot. Now, he is hitting in the .06-.08 ratings area, being actually thumped in his time slot by college and Spanish speaking stations and he is the one to blame for the death of Talk Radio.

Again, just spitballin' here, this would be MY OPINION only, and ...END of RANT.

... that Liberty Communications bought stronger control of ownership over the Sirius / XM "formed" monopoly of satellite radio. I'm thinking that it wasn't a lot of coincidence there. They would rather people have a live show where the focus is on social issues like gay and lesbian topics that Michelangelo focuses on rather than the issues surrounding corporatists that Hartmann focuses on. They have to keep us dumbed down on that stuff (albeit very worthy topics) and keep us divided instead of uniting the 99% to take the system back from the 1%!

Radio is dying a slow death, especially AM radio. Nobody listens if not in the car. The 'progressive' outlet in NYC flipped to a Spanish, maybe it was Mexican, format in January so Ed hasn't been in the NY market since then.

Three hours of radio plus a TV show is a lot of talk time. Ed's decision is understandable.

and more exposure (and acceptance) to a larger and more varied demographic, I say more of it. When I see progressives moving from radio to tv while conservatives like Limbaugh seem unable to make the transition, I take it as a sign progressive ideas are becoming more accepted by the general population. There's a reason Limbaugh can't do tv. Most of the country would soundly reject him if they were directly exposed to his ideas.

My 6 month subscription was about to expire, and I called Sirius, told them I wanted a smaller package due to basically listening to Oldies, progressive radio and business. It was still $164 a year, so i told them to cancel me. Not worth it for 3 lousy stations a year! They kicked me up to somebody else who offered me AND my wife's subscription for $115....both radios for a full year with the packages we already had! It pays to bitch!!

I used to love Mike Malloy, but he became too much for me. Then Stephanie was too chatty and silly. Mark Maron was too whiny. Bill Press too wonky and often boring. Ed was entertaining. Randi was funny and brilliant! Ed and Randi were the only two I had left. They were the only two that I paid money for to maintain those podcasts.

The good news is that I'll be saving money every month.

The bad news is that I will no longer have their voices...and this during an election year.

I'm not sure what's *really* going on here; all I know is that we continue to lose these liberal stalwarts who truly speak up for the downtrodden in this county and now they are both gone.

Ed's t.v. show is fine, but it's not the same. He had more flexibility on his radio talk show than he does on his t.v. show. He had more freedom to say what he wanted. Now I can't help but thing he's simply fulfilling some kind of corporate-based contract, just biding his time until that's over when he can leave the show, too, and retire for good. Very sad.
