Larry Wilmore to Take Place of Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central
Source: NY Times
What comes after The Colbert Report?
On Comedy Central it will be The Minority Report and the host will be the Senior Black Correspondent from The Daily Show otherwise known as Larry Wilmore.
Comedy Central has concluded a deal with Jon Stewarts production company, Busboy Productions, to create the follow-up show to the Emmy-winning Colbert Report, which will be coming to an end in the next year when its star, Stephen Colbert, leaves to succeed David Letterman on CBSs Late Show.
The idea for The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore, as the show will be known, came from Mr. Stewart himself, who proposed that the 11:30 p.m. time period behind his nightly Daily Show was the ideal place for a new format, one that that would provide an opportunity for the underrepresented voices out there, as Michele Ganeless, the president of Comedy Central put it in an interview.

(81,304 posts)Glad you're here! I think he'll probably get in there and then start developing and broadening and really lock in on something! Look how well others have spun off from Jon Stewart's home base? Besides, Colbert and Carrell, we now have John Oliver off 'n' running, too! Really found his niche! I think Larry Willmore will, too. They don't get to "The Daily Show" without being of VERY high caliber and huge future potential.

Why not put Larry on at 10:30?
2naSalit
(86,646 posts)Because Colbert is replacing David Letterman on another network. thus ending the Colbert Report.

(30,099 posts)I would have thought they would choose to avoid that.

(86,646 posts)Sorry I missed that point. I don't have TeeVee and watch everything online at different times than when they are broadcast so that point whizzed right by me like a missed off-ramp on the Interstate.

(30,099 posts)For myself, most of Colbert and Stewart are on my DVR, I rarely watch them
at the scheduled times.
I hope in the end Larry does well.
