Anti-Gay Group: Businesses ‘Trample’ The Freedom of Mississippi Christians By Serving LGBT People
Source: The Raw Story
Buddy Smith, the leader of a group that opposes equal rights for LGBT people, argued businesses in Mississippi were bullying Christians by advertising non-discrimination policies. Mitchell Moore, the owner of Campbells Bakery in Fondren, started providing local businesses with We Dont Discriminate decals after his state passed the Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act to give companies the right not to serve gay and lesbian customers. We hoped really that we as business owners could finally speak for ourselves and not have politicians speaking for us, Moore explained. They kept using business as an excuse, saying, you know, We need this for businesses so that we can prevent discrimination against Christians.
He added: Were in Mississippi. Ive never been discriminated against as a Christian. By Friday, the blue stickers had been distributed to over 400 businesses. It may be political, but Im not making that stance, Moore said. This is about business. This is about a business owner and local business saying, Hey, dont listen to the politicians. We will sell our product to everybody.
But in an interview with One News Now on Monday, American Family Association Executive Vice President Buddy Smith suggested that the decals were an assault on Christian freedoms. Its not really a buying campaign, but its a bully campaign, he asserted. And its being carried out by radical homosexual activists who intend to trample the freedom of Christians to live according to the dictates of scripture.
They dont want to hear that homosexuality is sinful behavior and they wish to silence Christians and the church who dare to believe this truth.
Smith warned that businesses that agreed to display the non-discrimination sticker were complicit in taking away the rights of Christians.
If you do that, you are agreeing with these businesses that Christians no longer have the freedom to live out the dictates of their Christian faith and conscience, he insisted.

(6,241 posts)about their right to live as they want. Their views are about their right to force people to live as they want to. And those stickers are saying "no. You have no right to force your religion on me."
Send me 200 stickers

(38,560 posts)Just because I'm speaking my mind w/ a sticker, doesn't mean I'm stopping them from doing anything.

(33,982 posts)They know they can't compete with businesses that don't discriminate, so they want to force these businesses that don't discriminate to stop advertising that fact.
Because it makes the bigots look like bigots, and they don't like that light being shined in their faces.

(15,384 posts)Also, I'm looking forward to them doing something other than whining about it - which is their First Amendment Right. Something that steps over that boundary so a business owner can take them to court using that same law by claiming their religious beliefs of not discriminating were being infringed.
These stupid fuckwads with their stupid religious laws that they think that once they're passed can only be applied to their point of view. They never consider the possibility of it biting them in their collective ass.

(4,407 posts)is to kick this guy in the nuts. Hard. Repeatedly. Rude Pundit style.
He isn't making an argument but rather, he's just throwing a steaming pile of BS out there in the hope of getting everything and everyone dirty. There is no reasoning, there is no thought-out thinking being done. It's purely ejection of a massive, steaming pile that has no chance of survival out of the womb from which it was born.
As such, to argue against said steaming pile gives it more life than it would ever have on its own. Arguing about it lends a layer of legitimacy, like an ugly pond scum that makes everybody look a little more like this asshole.
So somebody kick this guy in the nuts and be done with it.

(3,596 posts)I am so tired of these people claiming to be victims........
Yesterday it was Congresscritter Grimm that he was the victim of a political witch hunt
Today it is that if some businesses advertise they will serve everyone, in the face of a law that gives businesses the right to discriminate against LGBT persons, somehow that tramples on Smith and his hateful bigoted friends' rights to practice their religion and are bullying them?
Really I suggest Mr. Smith go to Iran or Saudi Arabia. He would be happy there because he will see that those uppity homosexuals are severely punished for being queer and ungodly and sometimes even put to death. Yeah, that's what God wants. He wants people put to death because they are living lives true to how God made them.
I'm not advocating anything bad on this guy but I wish he would crawl in a hole and cover himself with dirt or climb aboard a rocket ship and blast off for the far edges of the universe.

(14,576 posts)The hypocrisy of these so-called Christians is unbelievable. They blame people who want equal rights and acceptance for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people with 'trampling their freedom to live according to the dictates of scripture.'
The problem is that if these 'Christians' are free to live 'scripturally,' it means THEY would trample the rights of others.
What's wrong with that picture?

(23,148 posts)The freedom to live in peace amongst your fellow humans is an active freedom. You have to protect it constantly. These so-called 'christians' believe they have the right to completely control the social environment around them. Grow up... stay home if you can't handle progress. Become Amish if you can't handle being 'christian' in the real world.
