Ukraine crisis: Kerry accuses Russia of 'destabilisation'
Source: BBC
US Secretary of State John Kerry has accused Russia of "distraction, deception and destabilisation" in eastern Ukraine. In a strongly worded statement, he called on Moscow to help defuse the crisis there or face further sanctions.
Mr Kerry praised the interim authorities in Kiev, saying they had honoured the agreement struck in Geneva on 17 April to de-escalate the crisis.
But he said Russia had "put its faith in distraction, deception and destabilisation" and said they had failed to call for separatists to leave official buildings and give up their arms as stipulated by the Geneva agreement.
He also accused Russian media of promoting President Vladimir Putin's "fantasy" about events in Ukraine.

This is key:
According to the Geneva agreement, Russia must publicly tell the "pro-Russian militants" (Russian thugs, Russian soldiers in plainclothes) to stand down and leave the buildings they have violently taken over. They haven't done it, this basic thing to stop the persecution of Ukraine. In case anyone had any illusions about what Russia wants--it's not peace, it's not sovereignty, it's Greater Russia.

The figure refers to the total of U.S. foreign aid given since Ukraine became independent some twenty-three years ago....

(1,717 posts)the U.S. government's very real destabilization campaign against
the democratically elected government of Brazil did indeed "succeed"
with a military coup. It ushered in more than two decades of repression,
torture and murder - which were then exported to other Latin American
countries. Never, never forget.

(6,419 posts)That the one who is destabilizing Russia is Putin?
There are many things in the world to never forget. Russia (the USSR's) rape and pillage of half of Europe is one of them--and Putin wants to do it again with his Greater Russia plans.

(6,241 posts)anyone really call them out on how horribly they treated Europe and western Asia during the USSR days. They just call Poland and Estonia and other countries out on getting US troops in there to ward off a Russian invasion. If I were there, I'd be scared of Russia's movements too. Having a expansionist ex-KGB guy like Putin in the Kremlin can make any country nervous.
Like someone finding out their neighbor is a registered sex criminal and likes to hang out on his front porch. You wouldn't blame someone if they didn't want to let their kids play in the front yard.

(6,419 posts)to see what a horrible legacy Russia/USSR has. Most of all those central/eastern European countries, with the exception of some places in the capitals, are still massive running sores. Compare those places to the parts of Europe under western/US influence from 1945-1990, Germany, France, Austria...
This is not idle talk. I lived in Central Europe, it's what has made me despise the dictatorship of the USSR and the continuing denial of that in Russia (and with collaborating progressives like Thom Hartmann). My god, compare Budapest with Vienna. Compare Bratislava with Bonn. Compare Prague to Paris, Serbia to Italy, whatever. The cultures under the USSR/Warsaw Pact were wrecked, bled dry, raped. They were crumbling buildings and potatoes for every meal.
Don't get me wrong, I think capitalism can be soulless and democracy can be a fraud, but really, let's keep some perspective.

This is the agreement:

Where does it say what you say it says?

(32,016 posts)It is the agreement. And the agreement says no such thing. The media has a narrative to stir up a fight between the U.S. and Russia. Don't buy into it.

And unlike almost all of you, I was in Ukraine. I saw the West European carpetbaggers coming in wanting to pay pre-Bolshevik prices for things dozens of times more in worth. They are the cause that capitalism will fail there once again. But yet there is no reporting of this.
