Boehner concedes ACA repeal ‘isn’t the answer’
Source: MSNBC
Three weeks ago, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) responded with a simple message to the news that Affordable Care Act enrollment had exceeded expectations: House Republicans will continue to work to repeal this law.
Three weeks later, it appears even Boehner doesnt believe Boehners bluster.
Speaker John A. Boehner said Thursday that changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act make it impossible to just repeal the health care law unless Congress has a replacement ready as well.
Speaking at a Rotary Club meeting in his Ohio district
Boehner said simply repealing the Affordable Care Act isnt the answer and it would take time to transition to a new system.

if the battle over Obamacare led the GOP to propose universal single payer. Since they'd rather die, I expect they will. Die, that is.

(44 posts)Boehner is realizing that the people of Ohio have had enough of his do nothing leadership in the House. People all over the State are on top of him ready to lower the boot on this red faced piss ant and he feels the anger of the entire State on the back of his neck. He better have saved a lot of the money that he was given by all those out of State donors so that he can retire to Florida with his buddy Rick Scott. There are millions of people here who cannot stand his lack of professionalism and leadership when it comes to not just the affairs of state that he lacks in taking up but also his national disgrace and stupidity. His aides have stopped looking at his website because there are so many negatives leveled at him that they are afraid to look. The repubs here in Ohio are very afraid that the sleeper has awakened and now is the time of their downfall.

(37,428 posts)Why risk being seen trying to repeal a popular law when they can quietly defund key pieces, then point to how the law isn't working.

(3,517 posts)82% favored banning insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.
61% favored allowing children to stay on their parents' insurance until age 26.
72% supported requiring companies with more than 50 employees to provide insurance for their employees.
39% supported the individual mandate to own insurance or pay a penalty. By party affiliation, 19% of Republicans, 27% of Independents, and 59% of Democrats favored the mandate.
Other polls showed additional provisions receiving majority support include: the creation of insurance exchanges, pooling small businesses and the uninsured with other consumers, so all can take advantage of large group pricing benefits (the community rating); and providing subsidies to individuals and families to make health insurance more affordable.
Other specific ideas that were not enacted but which showed majority support included importing prescription drugs from Canada (with its lower, government-controlled prices), limiting malpractice awards, reducing the age to qualify for Medicare, and the Public health insurance option.
