Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. out to early lead against Halvorson

Source: Chicago Tribune

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.has jumped out to an early lead tonight against long-time foe Debbie Halvorson, a former congressman.

In the 2nd Congressional District contest, Jackson had 73 percent of the vote to Debbie Halvorson’s 26 percent with more than 27 percent of the unofficial vote counted.

Halvorson, a former one-term congresswoman from Crete, hopes to end Jackson’s 17 years in Congress by taking advantage of the Chicago Democrat’s ongoing ethics cloud. He faces a congressional ethics investigation that stems from allegations that Jackson campaign supporters offered to raise money for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich in exchange for appointing Jackson to Obama’s theU.S. Senate. Jackson denies any wrongdoing.

And certainly not one so terrible that it's worth replacing him with a suburban centrist hack who can't possibly care about the majority of people in the district.

republican. Debbie won the seat in 2008, when Republican Rep Jerry Weller retired. She lost the seat in 2010 to another republican, Adam Kinzinger.

I liked her voting record while she was in congress. She did a good job and served her constituents well, but doesn't have the power of Jesse Jackson, Jr. I voted for Debbie today, but I will support Jackson in the general election.
