(UPDATE) Rebellious Nevada rancher's racist remarks dim Republican support

Source: Reuters

BY JENNIFER DOBNER AND STEVE GORMAN

(Reuters) - Two Republican senators who voiced support for a Nevada cattleman in his showdown with federal agents over grazing rights on public land condemned recent remarks by the rebellious rancher musing about whether African-Americans would be "better off as slaves."

A day after Cliven Bundy's comments about "the Negro" and government subsidies were published in The New York Times, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky issued a statement saying the rancher's "remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him."

Paul, a libertarian and presumed 2016 Republican presidential contender, has expressed sympathy for Bundy's cause and for the resentment harbored by many political conservatives in the West against what they view as overreaching by Washington.

A spokeswoman for Senator Dean Heller, a Nevada Republican who has called Bundy's supporters patriots, said in a statement that Heller "completely disagrees with Mr. Bundy's appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way."

that the NYTimes quoted, I thought,OMG!....he went on to talk about Mexican people too. By the time he got done with that part he had some rationale and presented an attitude that the Blacks and Mexicans have been cheated....I looked for the video this morning and I have so many folders, favorites, etc. I haven't found it yet. Of course, it would require some time to listen to because Bundy's delievery is painstakingly slow. I'm am not defending what you have read that Bundy clearly said...it's just once again the media is only presenting a part of the remarks.

through...not the right one. The one I watched he was not on a stage...just standing under some trees...may have occurred after the one on this link because the environs looks right. It is an explanation though to his racial remarks...much along the line of where I landed after hearing them originally. Since I haven't listened to this one I don't know if he said those things here. I just didn't want you to think I wasn't trying to come up with what I was referring to. I will still look for the 'original'.

Republicans Blast Nevada Rancher for Failing to Use Commonly Accepted Racial Code Words

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — Republican politicians blasted the Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy on Thursday for making flagrantly racist remarks instead of employing the subtler racial code words the G.O.P. has been using for decades.

“We Republicans have worked long and hard to develop insidious racial code words like ‘entitlement society’ and ‘personal responsibility,’?” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky). “There is no excuse for offensive racist comments like the ones Cliven Bundy made when there are so many subtler ways of making the exact same point.”

Fox News also blasted the rancher, saying in a statement, “Cliven Bundy’s outrageous racist remarks undermine decades of progress in our effort to come up with cleverer ways of saying the same thing.”

way. People like those who support Bundy should not be allowed to tote guns anywhere because they are vile and stupid and racist. The only way to fight back is to vote the NRA supporters out of office...it will take time...but it is becoming more necessary and it will be done.

Like his father, the son also favors notions of limited government. "Libertarian would be a good description," Rand Paul told CNN, "because libertarians believe in freedom in all aspects of your life – your economic life as well as your social life as well as your personal life."
