LINCOLN A new proposal was unveiled Tuesday to restart a Nebraska review of a new route for the controversial Keystone XL pipeline that would bypass the environmentally sensitive Sand Hills.
State Sen. Chris Langemeier of Schuyler, chairman of the Legislatures Natural Resources Committee, said his proposal clarifies the intent of a compromise reached last fall with pipeline developer TransCanada Inc. to get the crude-oil pipeline rerouted around the Sand Hills.
Under Langemeiers proposal, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality could restart its environmental review as soon as TransCanada submits a corridor where the pipeline route could be relocated.
The DEQ would post the proposed corridor on its website and schedule a series of public meetings in the affected area of north-central Nebraska. Then TransCanada would finalize its alternative route, which would be reviewed by HDR of Omaha.
