House passes Paul Ryan's budget

Source: USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — The House approved along party lines a budget plan that would reach balance in 10 years by cutting taxes, repealing President Obama's health care law and cutting social programs in favor of the national defense.

"What this budget comes down to is a matter of trust," said House Budget Committee Paul Ryan, who authored the budget. Republicans put their trust in individual Americans while Democrats put more trust in government, he said. "Who knows better: the people or Washington? We have made our choice with this budget."

The conservative fiscal blueprint is the final resolution authored by Ryan, who is term-limited as Budget chairman. Like all of his previous efforts, it was approved on a party line vote, 219-205. Twelve Republicans voted against it, as did all House Democrats. The Democratic-controlled Senate has no plans to pass a budget plan.

Ryan's budgets have never stood a fighting chance at becoming law. However, they have served as the defining fiscal vision of how the Republican Party would govern.

Few aspects of this budget has received more attention than Ryan's call to fundamentally alter the Medicare system.

to repeat the same thing over and over. They will still blame Obama Care because of who he is--not because it will give people a leg up on buying insurance. They will continue this through the election of 2014 and the amount of money spent on election 2016 will be the largest amount in memory. The Kochs and others will open up their bank accounts and watch the continuing flow of money to just about every Republican running or planning on running. They will use every last cent they own. These Republicans will never stop.

Isn't our government "of the people, by the people, and for the people"? Or was history's number one Republican all wrong?

Caused by individual Americans.

You know the old Republican slam that Democrats think government can spend your money better than you can? Well, the government can. I don't want to build a road in front of Republican headquarters or to my competitor's plant. I can't afford to buy an aircraft carrier. And there's a bunch of necessary things I don't even know about. But I can pay taxes, and my money can be used to help buy those things. None of us by ourselves can do what all of us can do together.

opportunity to tell the American people of what the Republicans stand for -- using
Ryan's own words, and explaining their meaning and what the consequences are.

And during debates with their Republican opponents, make use of Ryan's words
again. The Repubs. can't deny that they had voted for it. Keep a copy of Ryan's
speech in hand.

going to pass the House.

At this point in the game, it's all about trying to gin up your base for November. Nothing more of substance will be enacted this year.

219-205 and twelve Republicans voted against it, as did all House Democrats.

We are united against the Ryan/Ayn Rand austerity budget.
