Joslyn Art Museum discovers that it had Rembrandt original in storage

It went into storage a painting. It'll come out a Rembrandt.
Joslyn Art Museum is preparing to unveil a painting by the 17th century Dutch master one of history's most famous and revered artists that has been in the museum's possession for 72 years but was out of view for the past decade. The reason for its exile: The museum believed it had a work from the School of Rembrandt, meaning it might have come from the artist's studio, perhaps painted by one of his many students, but not from the hand of Rembrandt van Rijn himself.
Now that's changed.
One of the world's foremost authorities on Rembrandt, Ernst van de Wetering, says the painting, Portrait of Dirck van Os, is the real thing.

(70,178 posts)all old museums have crateloads of stuff that hasnt been looked at in decades. and decades.
as long as deaccessioned works were sent only to qualified institutions where they would be available to the public, we would all win.

A good number of Detroit's rich help the DIA, but nowhere near as much as the institution requires. Plus, they're pretty tapped out - lots of needs in Detroit.

(7,403 posts)But about 3 years ago I was walking down an aisle in a store and noticed a crumpled piece of paper that was clearly money. I picked it up and looked around and nobody was nearby so I stuck it in my front pocket. When I got back to my car I took it out to unfold it and stick it in my wallet and to my surprise it was a $50 bill, so it does happen on very rare occasions.

(18,638 posts)I distincly remember wadding a fifty up and sticking it my pocket as I went into the store. When I got to check out, it was gone.
Thanx for finding it for me. Send me a PM and I'll give you my address.

(7,403 posts)What city, what store and location, what date and time of day.
And I suppose that folded up $10 bill I found in a driving rain in a parking lot 30 years ago was yours too.
