After Backing Anti-Birth Control Blunt Amendment, McCain Now Says GOP Needs To ‘Get Off’ War On Women

GREGORY: Are you concerned at all to see the focus, with certain elements of the Republican Party, on social issues? In your own state of Arizona, there’s this contraception bill that even the governor has said would put women in the uncomfortable position where they had to say to their employers why they wanted contraception, and why it should be covered — is that a bad road?

McCAIN: I am confident that that legislation will not reach the governor’s desk and if it did it would be vetoed. . . . It certainly does not reflect, in my view, the majority view of the people of Arizona.

GREGORY: Do you think that there is something of a war on women among Republicans?

McCAIN: I think we have to fix that. I think that there is a perception out there because of how this whole contraception issue played out — ah, we need to get off of that issue, in my view. I think we ought to respect the right of women to make choices in their lives and make that clear, and get back onto what the American people really care about.

Too late now, John, the Koch's lackeys are pushing the war across the entire nation.

You might be able to control how the r's play in both houses of congress, but ALEC released thousands of cats with empty cans tied to their tails all across the nation. You'll never get them all rounded up and calmed down before November.

if it was true that McCain was seriously concerned about the radicals (Hannity ...Limbaugh...Beck etc.,) taking over the party then he should have stood up against them and not played along with the good-ol-boys club to unleash this madness on America....

actually he unleashed it when he legitimized the half-governor of Alaska in 2008.

He has been one of few to attempt to correct the birther issue and the muslim issue on Obama, many others as Bohner and other repub leaders has not the guts to tell the truth. The war on women is going to kill the repubs in the upcoming elections especially with independents. Though we will gain those votes, McCain has stepped up to the plate to right some wrongs. BTW, I did vote for Obama and plan to do so again.

"...respect the right of women to make choices in their lives..."

Sorry Gramps! The Republican party, of which you have been the standard bearer, is not pro-choice. You were happy enough to have the votes of the right-wing Christian whackos, this is what they believe. Personhood, no birth control pills, no in vitro, forced vaginal inspections, re-defining rape, are all parts of the War on Women and are antithetical to the moderates and independents both parties need to win.

You made this bed, stop whining now that you have to lie in it!

Why is McCain even on tv all the time? He is not the Senate minority leader, nor is he a candidate for President. He's just another goofy repuke Senator. And it's too little too late. Shut up and go away McCain.

Geez, McCain, ya think?
The time to say that was before you voted, and then voting no.
What are these people smoking?
And, why would he be confident that next crazy bill won't be signed by the governor of his state when his yes vote on the Blunt amendment would be law for the entire country?
