Feds: `No evidence' Tamerlan Tsarnaev was FBI informant

Source: Boston Herald

The federal government denied they sought to recruit slain Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev to serve as an FBI informant against the Chechen and Musilm community, new court documents released today reveal.

The defense motion seeking "favorable evidence" to help in the case of Tamerlan's brother, 20-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, includes a passage where the defense team alleges the U.S. government attempted to groom Tamerlan, 26, to be an informant. Those passages state:

"The FBI ... asked him to be an informant, reporting on the Chechen and Muslim community," the defense alleges.

&quot T)he government has no evidence that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was solicited by the government to be an informant," the feds responded.

Did FBI Try to Recruit Boston Bomber Tsarnaev as Spy?

A defence attorney for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, who faces the death penalty if convicted of carrying out the bombings at the Boston Marathon in 2013, claims the FBI attempted to recruit his older brother Tamerlan to spy on Muslims and the Chechen community in the city.

...

Now journalists in the US are asking how much information the FBI had about Tsarnaev and his murky past and whether the FBI might even have prevented the bombings taking place had they followed up leads about Tsarnaev earlier.

Dzhokhar's defence attorney filed a court motion on Friday which said: "We base this on information from our client's family and other sources that the FBI made more than one visit to talk with (Tamerlan's parents) and Tamerlan, questioned Tamerlan about his internet searches, and asked him to be an informant."

We all know the FBI would never ever in a million years lie to cover their pure as 24 carat gold butts or do anything unsavory. Everyone in the FBI are all such paragons of virtue just like J. Edgar Hoover.....just ask Ibragim Todashev.

This always makes me wonder why they don't just say, "It's not true." Don't they know what their own agents were doing?

One way there can be "no evidence" for something is if you have destroyed all the evidence. Presto: no evidence.

to justify their bloated budget and unchecked extra-judicial powers in the past.

Oh that's right. That is SOP for them.
