U.S., other powers kick Russia out of G8
Source: CNN
(CNN) -- President Barack Obama and other world leaders will discuss ending Russia's role in the group of leading industrialized nations, a senior White House official said Monday.
The move to suspend Russia's membership in the G8 would be the latest direct response from major countries allied against its annexation of Crimea. Administration officials said there is no reason for Russia to remain in the group at this point.
"Our view is simply that if Russia is flagrantly violating international law and the order that the G7 has hoped to build since the end of the Cold War, there's no need to engage with Russia," Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser, told reporters in The Netherlands where the President attended a nuclear security summit

(11,014 posts)The G7 has countries that are on economic ropes like Italy in it ... hardly an "Industrial Power"
China, India and Brazil have far far bigger economies than those of Italy or France.
They should call it the "Non-slavic White Coalition" instead.

What about when we have the G20 meetings, I guess then we're including the "white Latinos" and "white Arabs"?

(11,014 posts)and those countries' economies have effect on a very large world population.
I think the UK and France have been "has beens" and should be out of the UNSC permanent membership as well.
France and the UK have very large economies, Ranked 5th and 6th repsectively. Russia is down there are number 8, slightly ahead of Italy.
Step away from the.... whatever it is you have!

(11,841 posts)And Italy's is larger than India. Measured per person, the difference is huge. Russia's economy is one dimensional. Their economy IS less than Brazil. Putin also has a great desire to be seen as a big world leader. Throwing him out of the club knocks him down a notch and to him is embarrassing.
Or we could just start with a war if you think economic slaps wont work.

(27,597 posts)If we embrace the absurd notion that Asians with close ties with America (Japanese in this case) are white by association, then surely that principle must apply to all those of us who are actual US citizens. I was trying to be funny but sometimes DU can be a tough crowd.
Racial insensitivity is pretty much the point. There can be no doubt that Japanese people are offended by such a stereotypical argument. I was hoping my metaphor would help convey that point.

(11,014 posts)This is strictly about geopolitics.
If you want LGBT membership to be blind and treated equally, you should not bring it into other areas. That would be how repukes attacked Barney Frank ... not about his policies and legislative initiatives but over his sexual orientation. "Barney Frank's unemployment proposals are bad ... he is gay after all" kind of attitude.
You are doing the same thing from an opposite perspective .. i.e. everything Putin is doing is bad because he is homophobic.
Such blanket aspersions don't do justice for the LGBT cause. One should be able to support the "other" (LGBT-neutral) policies of someone who is gay as well as someone who is homophobic if such policies are in the best interests of people. That doesn't mean one supports being gay or one supports homophobia -- it only means one supports the given policy.

I have never been to Russia. I am sure there are many people in that country that hate what is going on in their name, much like I am sick of the atrocities that the US commits all over the world being done in my name.
If I hated this country as much as you imagine, I would have left it a long time ago.

(10,575 posts)NEW DELHI: India, Brazil, China and South Africa today opposed any restrictions on participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 summit in Australia later this year in the wake of Russia annexing Crimea from Ukraine.
The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries expressed concern over Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop's comment that Putin could be barred from attending the G 20 Summit in November.
"The Ministers noted with concern the recent media statement on the forthcoming G20 Summit to be held in Brisbane in November 2014. The custodianship of the G20 belongs to all member-states equally and no one member-state can unilaterally determine its nature and character," the BRICS said in a statement.
The Ministers of BRICS countries met on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, Netherlands.

That Crimea can vote to join Russia without violence is pretty incredible. I think the U.S. has much to learn. We bombed Iraq back to the stone age, many hundred's of thousands dead and maimed. We will always have that on our conscience.
