Report: Apple talking to Comcast about streaming TV service to bypass web congestion

Source: RawStory.com

Apple Inc is in talks with Comcast Corp to enter into a deal for a streaming-television service that would allow Apple set-top boxes to bypass congestion on the web, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The discussions are in early stages and there are a lot of hurdles to be crossed before a definitive agreement could be reached, the Journal said.

Apple, which wants its TV service’s traffic to be separated from public internet traffic over the “last mile” for faster transmission, is looking for special treatment from Comcast’s cables to bypass congestion, the report said.

Comcast and Apple declined to comment on the report.

Aka, "We want QoS priority". There is no real "separation" over digital connections (yeah, yeah, I know about VLANS, but that's not what we're talking about). There are only QoS rules that will command the system to give Apple traffic higher priority than general Internet traffic.

Hell, offer them triple. It's gonna' be the consumers paying for it in the end (or should I say getting it in the end) anyway.

Which has Youtube, Netlifx, etc on different tiers ($5 more here, $5 more there, etc)? Always appropriate to keep posting it because it seems that's where we're headed.

Think different.
