Ukraine orders Crimea withdrawal

Source: BBC News

Ukraine's interim President Olexander Turchynov says he has ordered the withdrawal of armed forces from Crimea.

The decision was taken because of Russian threats to the lives of military staff and their families, the president announced.

>

"The national security and defence council has reached a decision, under instructions from the defence ministry, to conduct a redeployment of military units stationed in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea," interim President Turchynov said.

"The cabinet of ministers has instructions to resettle the families of soldiers as well as everyone else who today is forced to leave their homes under the pressure and aggression of the Russian army's occupying forces."

The troops down there have been very disciplined on not firing after being surrounded during the invasion from those non-Russian troops using Russian vehicles and carrying Russian issue weapons and wearing Russian issue uniforms without identifying insignia.

Soviet-era trucks and weapons for the most part (tanks, AA guns, APC's, etc), with a much smaller percentage being built both domestically, and imported from Russia and other CIS states.

Although I'm not certain if the answer assists or not in your agenda...

I'm afraid I didn't write if was ' all "Soviet era" stuff...'. Merely the majority of it with (as noted) the rest being manufactured either in Ukraine or imported from Russia and other CIS nations...

(I suppose I'd deny an agenda too were my position irrational and ahistorical.)

Cuba has lots of American cars. So therefore the cars in Havana are the same as those in NYC.

Except for age. As reported fairly widely (among those sources for whom detail and distinction matter, instead of being inconvenient) there's a time problem. Most of the firearms carried by the Russians are far newer, either in production or in models, than the stuff held by the Ukr.

Then there are the self-confessions. Troops saying where they're from.

Or the accents. Sort of like the New Hampshire National Guard all having Appalachian accents.

What's that river in Egypt called?
