Illinois Republicans Nominate Candidate Who Blames Gay Rights For Autism And Tornadoes
Source: Think Progress
All of the Republican incumbents in Illinois who supported marriage equality won their primaries Tuesday, but one particularly anti-LGBT candidate for Congress did beat her more liberal challenger. Susanne Atanus, who is challenging Rep. Jan Schakowskys (D) seat in Illinois 9th District (which includes much of Chicago), won her Republican primary against former Obama-supporter and Navy veteran David Earl Williams III.
Atanus received national attention in January when she told the Daily Herald that God sends devastating weather like tornadoes and diseases like autism as punishment for LGBT equality and abortion rights:
I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first, Atanus said. She said she believes God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as in response to gay rights and legalized abortions.
God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions, she said. Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If its in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God.

The rebranding efforts of the Party of Stupid continue, as the wingnuts teabag themselves into another general election loss.

(1,281 posts)After watching and listening to these twisted and scary beings called Republicans I really am starting to believe in
extraterrestrial beings . I believe these beings posing as human beings are from a Galaxy out side ours
and were deposited via a meteorite here on earth in seed pods and stored in the basement of David Koch .
These things have been proliferating for at least the last 10 tears and spreading all over our country for
the soul purpose of taking over America and eventually the world . We must seek them out and destroy them .

(6,929 posts)That is so beneath an open mind. Would I question her knowledge and intelligence and maybe even sanity? Oh, yeah, she is nuts. Criticizing her less than lovely appearance is misogynistic and detracts from the important questions about her.
She is however the perfect Republican candidate. May they choose more and lose more elections.
