Fred Phelps' Funeral Will Not Happen, According To Westboro Baptist Church Member

Source: Huffington Post

Westboro Baptist Church is famous for its funeral pickets, and now that its founder, Fred Phelps, is on his deathbed, some people have raised the possibility of protesting his funeral. Others urge taking the high road.

However, it seems that there may not be a funeral at all, according to WBC member Margie Phelps, who told Huffington Post editor Nick Wing in February that memorials were not in line with their church policy.

@nickpwing We don't worship the dead in this church, so there'd be no public memorial or funeral to picket if any member died. — GodHatesYourStars (@WBCMargie) February 4, 2014

Phelps' estranged son, Nathan, wrote in a Facebook post that his father had been excommunicated from WBC, and was "on the edge of death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas."

These guys are cowards and bullies whose entire "church" is founded on the principle of baiting people into physical confrontations that they can then sue you over. This guy was never a religious leader who was convinced of his righteousness, if he was, they would welcome the persecution they brought on themselves.

And before anybody gets huffy, Primitive Baptist is a description of a belief system, not a value judgment.

When some one passes , it is an important ritual,( in a society way to short on rituals), to gather, to remember the person, and to celebrate that person's life. It isn't for the person who passed so much as it for the family and friends who's lives that person touched. It is about coming together to heal from the grief of the loss.

But in this guy's case, maybe no one is grieving.

Because you know the Topeka police would have to build an outhouse over Phelps' gravesite to cut down on the number of people they'd have to lock up for public urination.

...heard of a funeral/memorial service being called "worshiping the dead."

At such services, family and friends typically gather to offer one another comfort. One has to have love and compassion in order to do that. The members of the so-called Westboro Baptist "Church" certainly score a big fat ZERO when it comes to love and compassion, so they are probably not emotionally capable of holding a service.
