Blagojevich heads for prison: 'Goodbye is the hardest thing'

Source: Chicago Tribune

Convicted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich stepped off a plane in Colorado this morning and headed to a federal prison to begin a 14-year sentence for corruption, the latest chapter in the downfall of a charismatic politician that seemed more like a bizarre reality TV show than a legal battle.

In what has become a familiar scene in the three years since Blagojevich was taken out of his home in handcuffs by federal agents, the former governor had bounded down the stairs of his Ravenswood Manor home hours earlier as cameramen, photographers and reporters crushed around him and well-wishers shouted encouragement.

Reporters shouted out questions as Blagojevich, dressed in a dark blazer and shirt with blue jeans, walked toward a waiting Chrysler sedan. "You are the best," someone yelled. In a few moments, the crowd quieted down and Blagojevich made a brief statement.

Illinois is still cleaning up his mess--and will be for a long time to come. There is zero trust in any Illinois Pol right now and I can't say I blame voters for feeling that way. With pigs like Ryan and Blago having lived in our Governor's mansion (not literally, mind you--Blago travelled by air to Springfield and lived in Chicago) it really does make you wonder about our state.

Hope the door didn't hit him in the ass on the way out, and hope prison is everything he feared it would be. The only ones I feel sorry for are his kids. They did nothing wrong.
