Gunning for Christ - Baptist churches give away guns in US
AFP | 04 March, 2014 09:52

Baptist churches in Kentucky are giving away guns as prizes in the southern US state in hopes of drawing wayward rednecks to Christ.
Lone Oak First Baptist Church is hosting the next "faith and firearms" event on Thursday and has invited the townsfolk of Paducah to come by for a free steak dinner and a chance to win one of 25 handguns, long guns and shotguns which have been donated as prizes.

The purpose is to "point people to Christ" while also celebrating gun rights and the great outdoors, the church said.

Preacher Chuck McAlister -- who used to host a popular hunting show on the Outdoor Channel and is a member of the Kentucky Baptist Convention's executive team -- will be the guest speaker.

McAlister's ministry "revolves around God, guns, good ol' boys" and has helped more than 3,000 people find Christ in the past two years, the convention said in an article on its website.

But not politics. .. just like non profits they can advocate for causes, or ideals but not specific politicians.

In this case giving guns away is neither.

The Existentialists made the same mistake. Who needs Science, we'll just write some intellectual woo to explain everything.

I think my father would have been turning around in his grave, is he had known that a Baptist shurch acted that way.... He was baptist, even though a somewhat liberal one for the most part - he seldom talked about his faith at all in fact....

And he was somewhat of a pacifist also....

It appears he actually took seriously the teachings and principles, and made them real in his life.

He also appears to have respected Christ's admonitions to not flaunt his beliefs publicly, and loudly.

The world needs people like that now, more than ever!

He did took it seriously and tried his best to made them real in his own life - he had a challenging life - but he kind of stood it out anyway... Hopefully he also was able to learn me that you do not need to flaunt your belief publicly and loudly but rather quiet in your own life as best as you is able to do it..

He was a good man, who tried his best to do things the right way - he was never rich - never powerfully - but he lived by his principles steadfast - something that is properly more powerfully than the ones who is rich, and powerful..

I think the world need people who do as the teaching of christ was - not as some "fundies" want to translate it into, hate bigotry and violence...

Though you're right, I don't understand how "Turn the Other Cheek" became "A Life for an Eye".

Then the winners could shoot an Ark animal and take it home and eat it. ("Clean" animals only of course, would not want run afoul of Leviticus).

Different religious traditions divide the seventeen verses of Exodus 20:1–17 and their parallels at Deuteronomy 5:4–21 into ten "commandments" or "sayings" in slightly different ways, shown in the table below. The number ten seems to be a choice to aid memorization rather than a matter of theology.[15][16]
