Donald Pridemore, Wisconsin Legislator, Says Single Parenting Leads To Abuse

Source: HuffPo

A Wisconsin lawmaker is co-sponsoring a bill based on the idea that single parenthood causes child abuse.

The bill says a child being raised by a single mother could be considered living in an abusive situation and because of that, a woman should not jump into a divorce, but rather look at alternatives, state Rep. Donald Pridemore (R-Hartford) said in a television interview Friday.

Couples need to study their relationships first, he said. "If they can re-find those reasons and get back to why they got married in the first place, it might help," Pridemore said on local television show"Today's TMJ 4."

Pridemore, the chairman of the House Children and Families Committee, is sponsoring the child abuse bill with state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend). It would mandate the state Child Abuse Prevention Board conduct public awareness campaigns emphasizing that single parenthood is a leading cause of child abuse. The Senate Public Health, Human Services and Revenue Committee held a public hearing on the bill Feb. 29, but has not voted, according to legislative records.

And it's DEMOCRATIC governments that are too intrusive in citizens' lives? Really? Now these assholes are telling people how to conduct their relationships and are trying to put into LAW that single parents = abusive parents? Are you fucking kidding me? OMG!!!

I'm sure that Mr. Grothman will sign on to a bill to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, because so many divorces happen because of financial stress on a family. Oh, he should also be in favor of universal single payer health care, right? Never point out a problem without offering a solution, right Mr. Grothman?

I raised my daughter as a single mother and there was nothing abusive about it.

The single cause of child abuse is an adult in the house who believes he/she can get away with it unpunished. That can be the legal and biological father of that child... so, should we outlaw marriage now? Now you care about the kids? Why? Because having to deal with them takes tax money kickbacks out of your pocket?

You know, you cannot make this shit up.

Okay, Pridemore, if being single is child abuse, then that makes divorce the root cause of child abuse. Know what causes divorce? Marriage. Simple, no marriage, no divorce, no single parent, no abuse.

Not only does it make as much sense as Pridemore, it costs nothing to implement!

Okay, I was thinking Texas had the dumbest, most ass-holish politicians around, but I can see that these cheeseheads are trying to make it a race!

No shades of gray. I've never laid a hand on my child. He will be 19 next week. I am a single mother. I didn't divorce, I was married til death did we part (at the time our son was 10). My son graduated school, got his mechanics certification and is a contributing member of society. But I'm a child abuser?

That's crazy thinking, what drugs do these people take?

considered to be "child abusers" also? So there will be no single "parent" adoptions? Foster parents? Or just women in any relationship capacity are at fault? Raised my son mostly as a single parent and he is getting his Ph.D. this year. What a bunch of bullfeathers.

ever read wilhelm reich on fascism and the family? Hitler really pushed the sanctity of the family, and husband as head of the family with absolute control. Reich's argument was that the family (wife, children) would FEAR the patriarch-head of family and the patriarch would FEAR, respect the head of state as the big daddy.

For some reason, these new dominionist clowns seem to have the same concept.

We are partners, friends and lovers. We respect and trust each other. However, since my mom married a sadistic fiend, I say this moron is either clueless or he sides with abusers.

Reich was talking about patriarchy, fear and fascism. Also, said that children born in households where the family were open to discussion and no fear-did not gravitate towards the authoritarian state or fascism.
