CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The father of a boy killed in the Chardon High School shooting died this morning at his home on the second anniversary of the school shooting.

Russell King, 48, was found in his bed by a family member at his home in Chardon Township home, said Lt. John Hiscox of the Geauga County Sheriff's Department. He said there were no signs of foul play. He said Coroner Robert Coleman is investigating.
....

King's son, Russell, was one of three students killed Feb. 27, 2012, at Chardon High School. T.J. Lane opened fire in the school's cafeteria with a .22-Ruger before classes began. He also killed Daniel Parmertor, 16, and Demetrius Hewlin, 16. Russell was 17. Three other students were wounded, including Nick Walczak, Nate Mueller and Joy Rickers.
....

Lane mocked his victims during that hearing, wearing a T-shirt with the word "Killer" on it, swearing and flipping his middle finger to their parents and families.

Today is the second anniversary of that shooting.

Developing: Chardon High School in Geauga County is on lockdown right now after a shooting.

Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the shooter's appearance in court.

Guilty plea by Chardon High School shooter T.J. Lane spares community painful trial

The shooter's guilty plea might have spared the community a painful trial, but it did nothing to take away the pain.

I can not help but wonder: Do the most ardent "gunners" ever shed tears over these tragedies?

More Cities Consider Gun Control

Mattie Scott stands in front of a packed house at the Mountain View City Council Chambers. She’s here to talk about her son and nephew, both of whom were killed in gun violence. As she tells her and the boys’ story, someone in the back shouts, “You’re disgusting!”

Another woman speaks about the gut-wrenching loss of her child, who was also shot and killed. Like Scott, she has come here to advocate for better gun control in her community. But not everyone has the same agenda. In the back of the chambers, a group of mostly white men are here to shout them down.

Some hold protest signs, while others wear yellow Star of David armbands. They are the persecuted—not the dead. Before the meeting ends, one of these men will tell Scott, an African American, to “go back to where you came from.”

Said one attendee, “I think there should have been a metal detector.”

My parents had good friends that lived there when I was growing up. It truly is an All-American town.

This is an absolute tragedy. Guns destroy families in more ways than the obvious ones.
