Maitland's Digital Risk to lay off up to 745 statewide

Source: Orlando Business Journal

Digital Risk plans to lay off up to 745 full-time workers statewide — including 566 in Central Florida — as of April 13.

The Maitland-based mortgage risk analysis firm notified the state that the layoffs likely will be permanent. They will include 315 layoffs in Lake Mary and 251 in Maitland, as well as 148 in Jacksonville and 30 in Boca Raton.

“Due to substantial, abrupt and unforeseen residential mortgage events, including ... improving credit quality, significant volume declines in refinance loan originations, etc., demand for Digital Risk services has materially decreased,” said Brandon Johnson, senior HR manager for Digital Risk, in a letter to the state.

Gray Swoope, president and CEO of Enterprise Florida Inc., said his organization will work with CareerSource Florida and the state Department of Economic Opportunity to provide job resources to those who are laid off.

When I was laid off back at the end of 2002 (and didn't find another job with real benefits until 2006), those "job resources" didn't help me one bit. Maybe it helped those at the top who made our jobs disappear feel better about themselves, but they didn't do me any good.
