Christie Campaign Gets Approval to Use Funds for Legal Bills

Governor Chris Christie’s political campaign won approval from New Jersey election regulators to use donations to cover legal costs stemming from investigations of his administration’s ties to intentional traffic jams at the George Washington Bridge.

The Election Law Enforcement Commission approved his campaign’s request today at a hearing in Trenton. Commissioner Amos Saunders suggested that letters to potential Christie donors state that the funds are being used to pay legal bills.

“I’m still troubled by a blank check over which we have no control,” Saunders said.

Chris Christie For Governor Inc. “will find itself without the means necessary” to respond to subpoenas issued by a legislative panel and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, according to a Jan. 31 letter from Mark Sheridan, a Newark attorney for the campaign. The letter to the commission says the campaign can’t afford to hand over documents and may be subject to contempt charges. Sheridan had no estimates on legal costs.

What do you want to bet the Kochs will cut some massive checks to get him out of trouble.

....what the Koch brothers do is make their contributions to non-candidate committees. Thankfully they can't contribute more than the limit to Christie's campaign committee.
