Christie Campaign Gets Approval to Use Funds for Legal Bills

Governor Chris Christies political campaign won approval from New Jersey election regulators to use donations to cover legal costs stemming from investigations of his administrations ties to intentional traffic jams at the George Washington Bridge.
The Election Law Enforcement Commission approved his campaigns request today at a hearing in Trenton. Commissioner Amos Saunders suggested that letters to potential Christie donors state that the funds are being used to pay legal bills.
Im still troubled by a blank check over which we have no control, Saunders said.

Chris Christie For Governor Inc. will find itself without the means necessary to respond to subpoenas issued by a legislative panel and the U.S. Attorneys Office, according to a Jan. 31 letter from Mark Sheridan, a Newark attorney for the campaign. The letter to the commission says the campaign cant afford to hand over documents and may be subject to contempt charges. Sheridan had no estimates on legal costs.
