Seattle Seahawks stop Broncos, now Super Bowl champion
Source: NFL
The Seahawks are Super Bowl champions for the first time after whacking the Broncos 43-8 Sunday night. Coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider spent the last four years building the toughest, deepest, most versatile defense in football. Their vision was fully realized for the world to see on the game's biggest stage.
For so long, we thought the weather would be a factor in the first outdoor Super Bowl in the Northeast. Peyton Manning and the Broncos got perfect conditions -- it was 49 degrees at kickoff -- but the worst possible opponent.....

Believe it, Seattle after 38 years, the Seahawks are finally Super Bowl champions.
In fact, by the time it ended, the only thing unbelievable about this one was how easy it was, as the Seahawks cruised to a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos to take Super Bowl XLVIII in front of 82,529 spectators at MetLife Stadium.
A young and brash Seattle defense made Peyton Manning and Denvers record-setting offense merely look old and slow, dominating the action from the start and forcing two first-half turnovers as the Seahawks jumped to a 22-0 halftime lead, the third-largest in Super Bowl history.
Percy Harvin then ended any thoughts of a Denver comeback as quickly as possible, returning the opening kickoff of the second half 87 yards for a touchdown to give Seattle, which entered the game as 2½-point underdogs in most sports books, a 29-0 lead....(more@ link)

(13,622 posts)for us. He was QB of the Pullman, Washington jr high team when his dad was at WSU but our jr high football team was so dominant, it wouldn't have mattered what future hall of famer was QB. In basketball though, you had to hold Elway to under 20 points if you wanted to have a chance.

Thousands of people were still celebrating late into the evening, as Seattle police monitored the gatherings.
The street parties began immediately after the game, when Pioneer Square quickly filled with chanting, dancing fans, and drivers blasted their horns in celebration of the Seahawks first NFL championship.....
Yup, none of these people care and the fireworks shooting out of the Space Needle are silent.

(39,961 posts)It was an ass-kicking. Seattle looked like they were playing a better game, a different game than Denver. No offense intended towards Denver, Seattle just took the game to a new level on the field.

(24,772 posts)What an exciting time to be a football fan in the NW! From classy QB Russell Wilson, to voluble philanthropist Richard Sherman, to comeback kid Percy Harvin.
It's a love-love relationship between this Cinderella team, full of free agents and nth round draft picks, along with their once-fired coach, guru, and father figure Pete Carroll, and the 12s.
Just doesn't getting any better than this. Well earned and well-deserved. The Super Bowl to end all Super Bowls!

(12,958 posts)Seattle dominated the Broncos in every facet of the game. Manning actually had a good game passing wise, but San Francisco couldn't get any yards after catch.

And because the game was played in Northern New Jersey, Newark's Star-Ledger has a report too, as they have a reporter on site. The Bergen Record sent a reporter, too. As did the New York Times.
This game even attracted attention from the BBC, across the Atlantic and Reuters too.
And my thoughts. I was disappointed that Peyton Manning doesn't get to retire a champion. (ESPN reported Manning will consider retirement depending on an offseason neck exam.)

(26,117 posts)For the record, I can take or leave professional football, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game with my 13 y.o. He's a Vikings fan, but he likes Sherman, especially after the Chris Hayes interview. My son and I talked about the "thug" thing and how its use to describe Sherman was racist an unwarranted. All around, it was fun, with a little learning experience thrown in.
So, despite you and all of your friends not caring, plenty of people do.

(19,818 posts)I live in a small town not far from Tacoma, WA. We had moved to Wa in 1973- Seahawks were formed a few years later. Every Seahawks game my parents would watch and if they lost my dad would get furious and go in his room the rest of the night.
He passed away in 2000. I wished he would have seen this season is all I can think about. When we won Sunday night, fireworks went off like July 4. People yelling and carrying on outside ( this is a town that quiet and older). I guess its easy to think its no big deal, I even have friends here that hate sports.
It was a great game, a great season and a real thrill for those of us especially who were there in the beginning....38 years ago...what a ride.

(213 posts)...the sport itself. Take the Super Bowl, lots of talk and news coverage of this event but 95% of these talk and news coverage is about the 'half time advertisements', why?
In the years past, the talk and news coverage has been about, guess what 'the half time performance'!
When would it be about the actual sport itself and less of the controversies, advertisements and performances?
This display of group think mentality is also identifiable in political and social discussions, people tend to not talk about the true merits or lack thereof of the issue but the narrative or spin that is driven at the moment.
People, we need to get our heads out of the narrative or spin and see the game itself because at the end of the day that is why you came to the stadium or are watching the tv thing!
