Westboro Baptist Church picketers show up at Santorum’s Topeka event
By Felicia Sonmez

TOPEKA, Kan. — More than a dozen members of the Westboro Baptist Church showed up Friday afternoon outside a Rick Santorum campaign event here.

The picketers, who said they had come not to protest or support Santorum but rather to deliver their message, stood on the street outside the Great Overland Station, where the former Pennsylvania senator addressed a crowd of more than 200 people.

The Topeka-based church, which is classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League as a hate group, is known for its anti-gay protests at military funerals and other events.

Outside the Santorum campaign event, Westboro picketers held signs reading, “Thank God for IEDs,” “God Hates the World” and “Not Blessed, Just Cursed.” Several held anti-gay signs and one held a poster reading, “Antichrist Obama.”

For the Phelps it's more about the attention than the cause.

It was an awkward interview where he admitted to rather having Obama over Romney, Santorum or Newt.

Of course, then he tied it back to Obama being the Antichrist and needing to fulfill the prophecy, so...

They were recently protesting in Chardon, Ohio, at the funerals of the kids who died in the school shooting. Thankfully the media paid no attention to them (that I saw anyway.)
