Exclusive: Chris Christie attacks N.Y. Times, David Wildstein
Source: Politico
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), after a low-key initial response to Fridays explosive allegations about his bridge-closing involvement, mounted a pugilistic defense late Saturday afternoon, attacking The New York Times and a former political ally in an email to friends and allies obtained by POLITICO.
Bottom line - David Wildstein will do and say anything to save David Wildstein, the email from the governors office says, referring to the former appointee who reignited the controversy. A letter from Wildsteins lawyer on Friday asserted that evidence exists
tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the Governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference.
The subject line of the 700-word email from the governors office is: 5 Things You Should Know About The Bombshell Thats Not A Bombshell.
The Christie camp begins by criticizing The Times for its initial characterization of the Wildstein letter: A media firestorm was set off by sloppy reporting from the New York Times and their suggestion that there was actually evidence when it was a letter alleging that evidence exists.". . .

Ah yes, attack the accuser and the media.
Substitute John Dean for David Wildstein and The Washington Post for the New York Times and we've time traveled back to 1973-74.

(11,014 posts)Whether it was actual evidence, or stating evidence exists, is a fine line, IMHO. Neither is actually good news for the Christie Crime Family.

(10,479 posts)his two-hour monolog after was the worst thing he could have done to protect himself. It left him open to much more bad press. If he had stated that he had no knowledge about the traffic jam and left the "podium" right after he would have gained more leverage.

(67,782 posts)These are his "points" about Wildstein:
As a 16-year-old kid, he sued over a local school board election.
He was publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior.
He had a controversial tenure as Mayor of Livingston
He was an anonymous blogger known as Wally Edge
He had a strange habit of registering web addresses for other people's names without telling them
Thomas L. Adams, Wildsteins Council Running Mate: It Was A Tumultuous Time.
Robert Leopold, Livingstons former Democratic Mayor: Wildstein Was A Political Animal Who Frightened People.
He Was A Very Contentious Person.
Wildstein Created Culture Of Fear Within Port Authority.
How many of those things could also be said about Christie? And if Wildstein was such a malcontent, why did Christie appoint him to one of the highest positions in the Port Authority?
This is going to BACKFIRE on him, probably sooner rather than later.

(2,749 posts)So Christie knew all this, as they've been friends since high school, yet used his political muscle to get the Port Authority to create a cushy job for him that had never existed in the history of the Authority. He really cannot stop responding to this shit, kind of like two teenage girls having a spat on facebook or something. It's pathetic.

(4,220 posts)The Politico story is fairly predictable but I swear out of the 1100 comments below the story on Politico, at least 1099 of them for some reason mention:
A guy named Barry???
Some lady named Hillary???
Something called Fast and Furious???
A country called Kenya???
Something about the IRS???
And almost every single one mentions some guy named Ben Gazi??? who dat???
It was weird because I thought the comments were gonna be about the Governor of New Jersey and all his current problems.
Must be those danmed hackers mixing up the comment sections over at Mike Allen's shithole!!!

(1,113 posts)The Times didn't cite evidence, it just quoted the lawyer's letter which said their client alleged there was evidence. The evidence itself was never specified.
"... evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures ..."
Sounds pretty unsubstantial so far.
I hate Christie, but let's be realistic.

(2,419 posts)that Wildstein also had bad acne in high school, could not get a prom date and once got a wedgie in the 2nd floor boy's bathroom at Livingston High. He also has some overdue library books in his Montville, NJ home. How can you believe a guy like that?
Let's see here. Who is the one who will say or do anything to save himself?

(5,732 posts)Isn't projection an amazing defense mechanism. So often what we see in others is a reflection of ourselves. This is a textbook example.
Chris Christie is a stereotypical bully who is watching his facade unwind. What a pig.
