California Porn Company Fined $78K for Workplace Safety

Source: Associated Press

A San Francisco porn company has been hit with a fine of nearly $80,000 for maintaining dangerous workplace conditions, among them allowing performers to have sex on camera without using condoms.

Kink.com spokesman Michael Stabile says many performers prefer not to use condoms and that the fine is part of a long-running campaign by those who oppose the porn industry.

The inspection was prompted by a formal complaint filed by AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a Los Angeles advocacy group, after two Kink performers — Cameron Bay and her then-boyfiend Rod Daily — tested HIV-positive last year.

Last September, California lawmakers voted down a bill that would have required that porn actors use condoms.

Last September, California lawmakers voted down a bill that would have required porn actors to use condoms during filming, but CalOSHA rules require companies to minimize employees' exposure to blood and other potentially infectious bodily fluids.

The OSHA citations issued Thursday named a range of violations, including improper use of extension cords, and failure to have on-site first aid materials approved by a physician. But the bulk of the fines -- $50,000 -- related to allegations that the company failed to protect workers from blood-borne pathogens.

This is a hazard! I've already lost two cats in this thing. There should be a warning sticker or something. I assumed the cats would float, but they sunk like rocks into the lube. And no, it's not what you think. Don't be disgusting. I was trying to create my own cat lube wrestling league. You know, for sickos.

I'm very disappointed! I bought this last month and had it shipped directly to congress. Foolish me, I thought that it would be less painful when they made us bend over...well it didn't work!

Funny how, despite the era of the Moral Majority & all the Televangelists,
the public never hears that their elected representatives actually have
to vote on such stuff. With so much money being made, guess they
wouldn't actually want the public to know there is a downside to the
business, it would be bad for business! Sort of like oil spills in the
"Drill, Baby, Drill" realm.
