After a Long, Heated Exchange Gov. Christie Calls Vet an "Idiot"
Source: NBC
Governor Chris Christie mixed it up with a Rutgers University law student at one of his signature town hall-style events in Florence Township, N.J on Thursday.
Christie got into a heated exchange with 34-year-old William Brown, who is unhappy with the governor's plan to merge Rutgers University's Camden law school with Rowan University.
The exchange began when the former Navy Seal questioned the governor's plan to merge the two South Jersey schools. It ended with the governor berating the Mount Laurel man, who attends Rutgers-Camden and interrupted Christie several times before being escorted out.
The governor said, ``Let me tell you something, after you graduate from law school, you conduct yourself like that in a courtroom, your rear end's going to be thrown in jail, idiot.''

I mean we all like Ralph Cramden but most folks like his ability to soften himself up. RePUGs seem to think that wrong with that and would like Christie to be mean to the extreme.

I think citizens should be aware of how their posts here can cast negative &, on the average, damaging allusions upon certain groups who are struggling for their Civil Rights, such as the LGBTQ community. We have no way of knowing whether allusions are intentional or not, so we must rely upon individual awareness, conscience, honesty, and autonomous action which, of course, applies to ALL of us here.

(27,598 posts)Why is it more appropriate to stick a cell phone tower up Christie's ass than it would be to use a redwood tree? You say towers are more relevant. Please help me understand why that could be. To me it looks like you are trying to goad billybob537 into a fight over this and I honestly don't understand where you are coming from.
From reading some of your other replies in this thread I suspect you might be upset about some kind of slur against gays or fat people but I don't see it. You are saying we should focus on Christie's policies and not on his stature as a fat ill-mannered person. But I believe you are the first who mentioned or implied in this thread that he is overweight.

(47,992 posts)you have in an extremely controlled situation, is a LIE and when you try to do anything about it, like being more aggressive about what your question is, or by reacting to what Christie's "answer" is, YOU are the one at fault. Christie proved this with TTE "I'm governor; you listen to me" and by trying to demonize this citizen, rather than seek some mutual point of understanding.
Christie is quite full of himself, isn't he? he, he, he . . .

(7,596 posts)Christie is a politician and should be prepared for situations like these. The fact that one person in the audience got him angry enough that he resorted to yelling, name-calling, and minor profanity ("damn" doesn't make him look professional at all. And this guy is being touted as being presidential material? You think Obama would have reacted this way if this happened to him?
What happens if Christie becomes president (terrifying, I know) and Vladimir Putin gets him angry? Does he call him a jerkoff and yell and swear at him?

What is funny is his comment about conduct in a courtroom.
Christie thinks he is a judge with the final say.
However, we had 2 colleges merged by an idiot asshat Republican many years ago.
And that decision was reversed by a much smarter Democrat just a few years later.
Christie's reasons for merging those 2 schools are flawed.
And the people of New Jersey will come to see that in the near future.

(95,337 posts)Rowan University is a Division III school that is barely known outside the state of New Jersey.
Rutgers University is a Divsion I school that is known throughout the country.
Henry Rowan, who Rowan University is named after because he donated 100million to Glassboro State School, wants to increase the prestiege of the school. Rutgers Law School isn't Harvard but it's a respectful and highly rated Law School. Mind you Rutgers School of Law has locations in both Newark and Camden - that's handy for those who have to work their way thru school that they could attend the Law School closest to their home. The Camden Law school also gets alot of students from over in Philadelphia.
In a nutshell, what I see is a filthy rich man who is trying to buy more name recognition. Adding the Law School in Camden would do that but probably piss off the entire state of New Jersey. Rutgers is to New Jersey like any State named school is to their respective state (ie Penn State University to Pennsylvania or Michigan University is to Michigan). People want the Rutgers name not the Rowan name.
If Christie does this he will seal his fate as a one-term governor of New Jersey.

(22 posts)Thanks for filling in the background issue that William Brown is fighting so passionately for.
Yes, Chris Christie appears willing to force through an unprecedented takeover of Rutgers University-Camden, a research university of about 6,000 students by the public teaching college known now as Rowan University. Although Henry Rowan, a wealthy industrialist, was instrumental in getting the name changed from Glassboro State College, he is not, AFAIK, a player in the current takeover debacle. That role is being played by Democratic Party boss and South Jersey power broker (and Christie donor & ally) George Norcross III, who is on the board of directors of the struggling Cooper-Rowan medical school and who wants to puff up Rowan (and his own financial and political interests) at the cost of the Rutgers University system.
It's crazy situation, and one we're fighting as best and as strongly as we can. To help us with our petition or our campaign to stop this unprecedented attack on public higher education, please come to our websites, listed below

http://www.r2rmerge/
PS) I'm a longtime lurker at DU and an assistant professor at RUC. Just a note to clarify also, that we do not disrespect Rowan University--we hate the idea of a state-mandated forcible takeover. Rowan does quite well in its own educational mission but it is not the same as nor is it compatible with the mission of Rutgers-Camden.

end of story.

(1 post)The real story here is what the Navy Seal was objecting to.
Christie is attempted to dismantle higher ed in New Jersey, beginning with New Jersey. He is attempting to shut down the Rutgers-Camden campus and hand over its assets to some political cronies who have some bad debt. It will be disastrous for higher ed in south Jersey, and bad for NJ over all.
Brown is not the only one Christie tries to silence here. Pollsters declared this "Christie's least popular idea ever" after it got 22% approval in polls statewide, and 56% opposition. In south Jersey, where Rutgers-Camden in, 71% oppose it.
Much more info can be found here, along with 11,000 signatures on a petition to stop this insane idea. Feel free to add your own. http://www.r2rmerge.com/
And even more infor and ways to help here: http://www.saverutgerscamden.org/
