Major League Baseball Stadiums Will Have Metal Detectors by 2015
Source: Associated Press
Major League Baseball announced new security measures to protect fans at stadiums Tuesday.
The MLB said its 30 teams will have to screen fans with metal detectors at stadium entry points starting in 2015, the Associated Press reports. Teams can pick between hand-held metal detectors or walk-through magnetometers.
The new measures will be in addition to bag checks that are already standard in baseball stadiums, MLB spokesman Michael Teevan said. This procedure
results from MLBs continuing work with the Department of Homeland Security to standardize security practices across the game, he explained.
Last year, several baseball teams, including the New York Mets, Oakland, Pittsburgh and San Francisco, tested fan screening at various points in the season.

14,000 people with beer and baseball bats. What could possibly go wrong?

(14,337 posts)We went to a Twins/Red Sox game in Ft. Myers last year. No guns or backpacks allowed. Everyone was searched. I heard one man complain that he couldn't carry his gun into the stadium. It surprised me they were doing these searches for Spring Training games in Florida too.
I would imagine eventually they will have metal detectors at their Spring Training Stadiums also.

(2,957 posts)Arizona will be the first state to pass a law to make exceptions to allow guns to be taken into stadiums.
Some states have passed laws that ban the banning of guns in places of business or assembly (i.e., overriding a business owner's right to say "no guns allowed" . Arizona will respond to this with their usual nut-fuck indignation with a law that overrides MLB.

Just like how they love "states' rights"...until a state decides to legalize same-sex marriage or abortion or pot or assisted suicide. Then they're all for federal regulation!

Where is the NRA?

And then, terror.
So, now we have terror 24 hrs a day. More war that way you see.
Cops can have assault weapons, drones and pretty soon missiles.
Did I mention they already have tanks?
Who gives a rat's ass anyway, a working person can't afford to go to a game now.
What do you think they'll charge in 2015 to enter our 'public' stadium?

(16,191 posts)Few things are as aggravating as having 15,000 fans trying to pour through a gate 30 minutes before a game starts, only to be stopped because there are only FOUR rent-a-cops with hand scanners doing the checks. I don't have a problem with basic, cursory security checks, but if you don't have the staff or equipment to do it properly you're just wasting peoples time and pissing everyone off. That's all they managed to do last year.

Now this. I'm done. You see a better game on TV, anyway.
