A Syrian government airstrike on a crowded market in the northern city of Aleppo has killed at least 21 people, activists say.

Videos uploaded by activists showed extensive damage to the market and corpses being pulled from cars.

Many more were reported wounded in the strike.

Syrian authorities say they are targeting "terrorists", a term the government uses to describe all opposition.

Syrian forces kill 25 in Aleppo barrel-bomb attack: activists

BEIRUT Sat Dec 28, 2013 9:03am EST

(Reuters) - A Syrian army air strike on a vegetable market in the northern city of Aleppo killed at least 25 people on Saturday, a monitoring group said, continuing a campaign of improvised "barrel bombs" that has drawn international condemnation.

A video posted on the Internet by local activist group Insaan Rights Watch showed residents pulling mangled corpses out of scorched and twisted car frames.

One road hit by the strike was covered with debris from nearby buildings and was lined with bodies, as young men shouted for cars to help transport the wounded. The content of the video could not be independently verified.

On Saturday, the Observatory said 25 people, at least four of them children, were killed by barrel bombing that also destroyed part of a hospital. It said the death toll was likely to rise as dozens more were wounded in the attack.

If your not rooting for the secular forces, you're supporting Jihad and the imposition of Sharia and an Islamic state.

Whatever gray nuances existed in this conflict, have evaporated under the heat of sustained fire and the braggadocio of the Islamic Terrorists, who impose sharia and ethnic cleansing in their wake.

Dozens of Islamist rebels have been killed by a Syrian army ambush in a strategic area near the capital Damascus.

Activists and state media say the attack took place on Friday morning to the north of the town of Maaloula.

State media said the men were linked to the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front.

The region lies next to key roads linking Damascus with the north of the country and has been the scene of fierce fighting in recent months.

The state-run Sana news agency said that an army unit had "ambushed terrorists, killing dozens of them and seizing their criminal tools".

Attack Happened Near Maaloula, Which Had Been a Tourist Attraction Before the War

Syrian government forces ambushed members of an al Qaeda-linked group on Friday, killing dozens of them near a historic Christian village north of Damascus, activists and state media said.

State TV said troops surprised fighters of the Jabhat al-Nusra or Nusra Front at dawn near Maaloula, which the group along with other rebels captured in late November for the second time this year. Maaloula had previously been firmly in the government's grip despite being surrounded by rebel-held territory.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said that dozens of opposition fighters were killed, and that 20 were wounded.

Maaloula is on the edge of the rugged Qalamoun region, about 60 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of the capital, where the government has been on the offensive for weeks capturing a number of towns and villages in the area.

Syrian TV aired footage of dead rebels in an open area with patches of snow. Most of the gunmen wore civilian clothes and some still had their rifles. One of the dead had two rocket-propelled-grenades tied to his back.
