Cops: 4 Dead In Southern Louisiana Shooting Rampage

A south Louisiana man attacked his former in-laws, his current wife, and the head of a hospital where he'd worked, killing three before killing himself, authorities said.

The shootings happened at four locations in two parishes about 45 miles southwest of New Orleans on Thursday. The first report came about 6:40 p.m., when Lafourche Parish Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux — who was shot in the throat — called 911 from his home in Lockport, Houma, La., newspaper The Courier reported.

The suspect, Ben Freeman, 38, was the ex-husband of Gouaux's daughter Jeanne, Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Brennan Matherne said in a news release.

Gouaux's wife, Susan "Pixie" Gouaux, was dead when deputies arrived, Matherne said. Louis Phillip Gouaux and his daughter, Andrea Gouaux, were injured and taken to University Hospital in New Orleans. Both were in critical but stable condition, Matherne said.

fully automatic machine guns. You do know those are highly regulated, very expensive and no more can be made after 1986. You can get one for around 20K after passing local and federal background checks, filling out the correct paperwork and paying the 200 dollar tax stamp. Just how many of these have been use in shootings like this one?

or larger, hence not as many people can be shot without a reload, unlike a "scary black rifle" with a high capacity mag.

Guns are fun to many Americans.

Some Americans will shoot people, unavoidably.

All we can do is outlaw the weapons that spray the most rounds the most quickly,
which will save some lives.

But a portion Americans tend to resort to violence, as a habit.

I say, regulate assault-type weapons and clips.

But the reasons many Americans shoot each other are varied, and come from a dark place.

That dark place needs to be explored, defined and HEALED, if possible.

Many Americans are pretty damn Emo, if you ask me.

he killed his current wife, then went forward to try to kill the family of his previous wife (the one with the restraining order), then tried to take out some former bosses/-co-workers as long as he knew he was going to have to suicide anyway

this is not "many americans" are emo, and emo people resent your allegation frankly

lots of people have deep feelings without slaughtering multiple family members and work contacts

agree that the guns need to be controlled but in this case the police and or mental health services etc. fell down on the job by not picking up this guy before he followed through on the threat to kill the ex-wife

i suppose if they realized that so many people were at risk, and not just the ex-wife, they may have done more but there's something of an old boy network in louisiana that trivializes domestic abuse
