California health exchange tops 400,000 enrolled prior to deadline

California's health insurance exchange said more than 400,000 people have signed up for health plans ahead of Monday's enrollment deadline as part of the Affordable Care Act.
The Covered California exchange said the latest figures are based on preliminary data through Sunday, when about 27,000 people picked an insurance company. Enrollment Friday was even higher, at 29,000 people, according to the exchange.
"We very much expect today will be a big day," Peter Lee, executive director of Covered California, said Monday. "We are seeing huge interest online."
The state's latest official figures were 156,000 enrolled in health plans through Dec. 7, and an additional 179,000 people who had qualified for an expansion of Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program.

"We're going to help people get across the finish line," he said, meaning some people who didn't complete their applications Monday could still get insurance starting Jan. 1. Who exactly qualifies for this added help will be determined on a case-by-case basis, he said.

(4,220 posts)The horrible anger some people have towards this issue is amazing. They all can't be trolls. The Faux News Scum "people" are winning. I hope that the ultimate victory of ACA shuts these fucking nut jobs up but right now its so fucking stupid, sorry for the language...
It seems that whatever numbers we put "on the board" these bastards have an answer. Now its "well those numbers hardly cancel out the "people who had their policies canceled" meme..
I think I (we) just need to let things settle down and hopefully enough people sign up and enough young to old people ratios sign up and it all works out for the COUNTRY!!!!!!!

(18,791 posts)I get SO tired of a CBS radio channel in Los Angeles (1070 AM)...anytime they talk about the ACA, it is ALWAYS Obamacare...I don't think they've ever called it the ACA.
It ticks me off as they say Obamacare in a snarky way.
