Tim Draper Wants To Split California Into Pieces And Turn Silicon Valley Into Its Own State

Source: Tech Crunch

TechCrunch has learned about noted technology investor Tim Draper’s plan to split California into six separate states, including a Northern California slice appropriately named “Silicon Valley.”

Draper shared his vision with TechCrunch tonight. He says he’s submitting a polished version to the state’s Attorney General in the form of a ballot proposition proposal within the next 48 hours. “Six Californias” already has a campaign website up and is eager for an army of volunteers.

We’ve pasted the full ballot initiative below, along with the redrawn map of California. Essentially, the idea is to section off California into six horizontal slices, with Silicon Valley getting its own region stretching from the Sierras to the Bay Area beaches.

Southern California would also get its own slice of isolationist glory, with the new state “West California” consisting of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, among other areas.

FWIW - While the California legislature would have to approve, the ultimate decision on admitting new states lies with Congress.

The way that map is configured it would lead to six new Republican senators. The blue area at the far north, the red area in the middle, and the gold area in the extreme south are all relatively lightly populated with a lot of elderly conservative voters. It's like creating three brand new red states. Except for San Diego in the extreme south these are far less affluent than the rest of Califonia.

The asshole that proposed this thinks he is going to get tax relief from sticking Silicon Valley in it's own state will be surprised and pissed off when he learns that his tax dollars will go to support the resource based economies in the three poor states.

Not going to happen but it still needs to be commented on.

to create six new states with massive organization and financial problems from the get go. I bet he's also figured out how to milk every dime from this bogus initiative he's cooked up.

Oh look, he's a venture capitalist, that verifies his notions are way more advanced than mine or yours and he's probably good at math & shit.

He's also a modern polymath, brother of actors, father of actors he even plays a school principal on a Nickelodeon series. He's an actor too, so there.

What an impressive set of accomplishments for a bag of douche who runs a numbers scheme in his spare time.

God, imagine the righties slicing up America like this for control . By now somebody's got the whole country figured out for fun and profit. "Well, shit, Bubba, let's us jus gerrymander for states". Texas will be next, then Florida, WI, Ohio.... all the purple states before they go all blue.

Not an easy task, but to them, easier than dealing with how to get along with your fellow man.

asinine, arrogant, and completely oblivious to the history and geography and ecology of the state. His proposal to name the San Francisco Bay area "silicon valley" tells you everything you need to know about his warped priorities, and his ignorance.
Plus I hate the term "silicon valley" to begin with. It's Santa Clara Valley, dammit.

That orange bit at the end grows pretty much the entire country's lettuce supply, and gets a fuckton of water from the blue and purple bits up top, via an aqueduct that runs down the red part.

That light blue part at the top grows a fuckton of weed (and has very little else going for it,) and being a separate state would mean selling it to the rest of the Californias would be a federal crime.

In short, this idea is stupid even by the spectacularly dumb standards of techbros and only somebody with no passing familiarity with the rest of the state could conceive of it, let alone throw money at it.
