Attack by Limbaugh Awakens a ‘Stop Rush’ Campaign

By BRIAN STELTER

Some of the same activists that persuaded advertisers to boycott Glenn Beck’s television show on Fox News in 2009 are now mobilizing against Rush Limbaugh in the wake of his verbal attacks on a Georgetown University law school student this week.

Actually, they are remobilizing. A Twitter account, “Stop Rush,” which has been dormant since late 2010, woke up on Wednesday, when Mr. Limbaugh first called the student, Sandra Fluke, a “slut.”

- snip -

The “Stop Rush” Twitter account asked on Thursday, “Are y’all ready to @StopRush? Getting the strong sense that it’s time and the feedback has been there so far. Spread the word.”

- snip -

Mr. Carusone similarly ran a Twitter account called “Stop Beck” in 2009 that targeted Glenn Beck for calling Mr. Obama a racist. He and other activists and groups contacted advertisers, hundreds of whom eventually asked Fox to keep their ads off Mr. Beck’s show.

Check the local station websites to see if any of them list sponsors for the show.

Be good to double check though. From that link I posted, it is apparently VERY expensive to buy time during his rant fest. If only generic "supporters" are listed, they may be for cheaper time slots and not Rush-specific financial backers.

23. Well, at least ONE of my local sponsors is listed here:
Sat Mar 3, 2012, 01:49 AM

http://www.topplebush.com/boycott_rush.shtml
"This is our current list of Rush Limbaugh advertisers as of 03/02/12. We have tried to keep our list updated as sponsors come and go but cannot guarantee the complete accuracy of this list. Part of the problem of keeping a list like this is that some of his radio sponsors or web sponsors may not even be aware their ads appeared on his program/website because these ads are sold in blocks to various programs, stations, and websites.

This list now identifies [4] advertisers we know for certain are sponsoring him. We are currently in the process of verifying other businesses that should be added to our list that display ads on his website.

Due to the recent deluge of complaints Sleep Train pulled their advertising with Rush. If you wish to thank them, please use this link to find their contact information."

Wouldn't hurt to ask for all their operational details

I did that when the story broke about the family cat that

The vast majority of people who listen to him do not make anywhere near the money that he makes ($400million), so let's see how long they justify shelling out subscription money when the kid needs medicine, or rent has to be paid or the car needs to be smogged and registered and insured.

because the issue of the Rethug War on Women continues and he is now knee deep in it - AND front and center. As long as Congress continues to hold kangaroo court hearings and vote on draconian misogynistic laws, and as long as zombie rethug state legislatures keep introducing and/or passing nonsensical "personhood" or transvaginal ultrasound laws, he and Frothy will be the face of the oppressors.

In an ironic way, if the rethugs continue down this neandrathal line of attack, they put him at risk because he chose to use our tax-payer funded airwaves to promote their vitriol. And if they cease their attacks on women and women's health, they lose one of their only remaining base-firing talking points outside of going full bore KKK. So for rethugs, it's now lose-lose and the #s of "self-identified" republicans continues to drop dramatically leaving the party with nothing but the insane.

Limbaugh is the poster pig for the uber reich. This time he has succeeded beyond his wildest sexual fantasies in garnering publicity for his fading career as a hate monger. He has now become an asset to the progressive movement. Millions of women will probably vote for democrats who might have voted for republicans or not voted otherwise. The more he babbles and slobbers on about "sluts" and "prostitutes" using contraception, the more a generation of young women are coming to understand what their mothers and grandmothers have been taking about when they get agitated about women's rights. Silencing him would only make him a 1st Amendment martyr to the fascist cause and actually revive his career, which is exactly what he wants.

The advertisers aren't stupid. They are well aware that Rush is extremely partisan. They know that the right loves him and the left hates him. They know that when they advertise on Rush that the politically active left will be offended. That is a price that they accept to reach the market that they want.
