Yale Police investigating report of person with gun near Old Campus

Source: New Haven Register

NEW HAVEN >> Yale University says police are investigating a report of a person with a gun on or near Old Campus.

There is a shelter in place and everyone on campus is asked to remain in their current locations as police investigate.

According to an alert message sent out by the university at 10:17 a.m., New Haven Police received an anonymous call from a phone booth in the 300 block of Columbus Avenue (between Howard Avenue and Hallock Street) reporting a person on the Yale Campus with a gun.

The university says there have been no confirmations or sightings of this person. Yale and New Haven Police are in the area.

The Emergency Management site is saying there are confirmed reports of a gunman and continues to order shelter in place as of 11:57 am.

Hope the reports are untrue.

but a very dangerous one. Puts the police and the students, faculty and community on edge, and could lead to a very bad outcome even if it is a prank.

But I just checked and the shelter in place remains, and the site states 'This is Not a Test.' I have a friend whose son is at Yale... he's in the library at the moment, not going anywhere.

Didyou know that the sterling library interior was used in a scene of the Julia Roberts movie "Mona Lisa Smile'?

A close friend's son goes to Yale and I followed this today because she was in touch with me about what was going on with him. We hoped it was a hoax but I suppose no one can be certain. Rather be safe than sorry... as the old saying goes.

Thanks for the update!
