Zimmerman Charged With Aggravated Assault After Allegedly Pointing Gun At Girlfriend

Source: TPM

CAITLIN MACNEAL – NOVEMBER 18, 2013, 5:36 PM EST

George Zimmerman was charged Monday with aggravated assault with a weapon, battery and criminal mischief after his girlfriend claimed he pointed a long-barreled shotgun at her inside their residence, Florida police told reporters during a press conference Monday.

After police responded to her 911 call, Zimmerman had pushed his girlfriend out of the home in Apopka, and had barricaded himself inside. A table was broken inside the residence, and Zimmerman was not holding a weapon at the time. Police said there were at least two weapons inside the home.

Zimmerman's girlfriend did not sustain any injuries.

The aggravated assault charge is a felony, and the other two charges are misdemeanors. Police did not charge Zimmerman after an altercation with his estranged ex-wife in August.

TOM KLUDT – NOVEMBER 18, 2013, 2:55 PM EST

The sheriff's office in Seminole County, Fla. released George Zimmerman's booking photo on Monday after he was arrested for an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

Zimmerman, who was acquitted earlier this year in the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, will not be charged for a separate domestic dispute in September involving his estranged wife.

The Republican nominated judge could have stricken several violations of legal procedure by the defense, such as the animation, and the badgering of the witness.

It was a tough case because it was a crime against a Black person in a Republican area.

Nov 2013

I said before on this forum that this guy is a cop wannabe, and he is also a gun nut, and it is a LETHAL combination. He is also on a protracted power trip.

What happened with Trayvon? He profiled and pursued the kid with gun drawn in the dark. He accosted him and stopped him wanting to detain him so he could look like a hero to the cops and his neighbors. An argument ensued. It was very dark. Trayvon could not see the gun. Trayvon went from flight to fight mode and stood HIS ground. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Trayvon
was getting the better of the asshole. The asshole Zimmerman, who already had the gun out, raised it and fired while Trayvon was over him. The bastard should have gone down for manslaughter because he started the whole thing, and it was Trayvon defending HIMself. This twisted-thinking loose cannon of an egomaniac is going to kill someone
else unless he is put away. I hope they good case with this and are able to lock his ass up for good long while.

You know how he gets when people mind their own business acting crazy. Maybe he thought she was on drugs and hopped up on skittles and iced tea. She also had a cell phone. These things have caused him trouble before; when he had to take out a dangerous thug on a rainy evening. Only his keen intellect could process the dangers unfolding before him, giving him the wherewithal to stand his ground before this dangerous phone wielding thug of a woman. This time she was lucky, he almost had to take her out.

Good to know.

BTW, while I am in favor of the RKBA I'm not a Zimmerman fan, sympathizer... IMHO, he was very wrong in doing what he did. I've not studied the case in enough detail to understand how he avoided conviction. If the trial and verdict were congruent with the existing laws, then this case points to a gap or flaw in the existing laws.

After having been a cop for 20 years, I can tell you that about 80% of what is said on 911 is a lie/half truth/embellishment etc.

Everyone who calls wants to appear in a better light than the other half of the problem no matter who the suspect is. There are always two sides to every story and everyone always insists they are telling the truth. Any woman who wants to have a relationship with Zimmerman has definitely got issues so odds are this isn't one sided.

I don't know all the facts in this, but just because a police officer has probable cause to make an arrest, doesn't mean there will be a conviction as we have already learned.

I have been attacked while arresting the bad husband/boyfriend by the "victim" enough times to just take all this with a grain of salt as the other half can be crazy too. I have seen women go nuts and stab, shoot and beat their BF / hubby with a bat. One of the last calls like this I went on was some lady walked up to her hubby in the street and took him out with a shotgun in front of the neighbors and they were not even actively fighting- she was just a bitch and all the neighbors said so. She is in prison btw.

This shit happens all day long in this country and all we are worried about is this guy and his likely mentally imbalanced girlfriend. I mean who would even associate with this guy with his known past? Convicted or not, he is a wierdo for sure and I bet she is too.

Unfortunately domestic violence not only involves people with issues, mental problems and such, but many innocent women, children and men as victims. I do have to say though, I hated those calls the most because you never knew who was really telling the truth unless they flat out confess which happens quite a bit. Just a mess and sometimes going into a house and seeing the absolute disaster some peoples lives are with their kids sitting on the couch wailing....makes me sick.

After is all said and done- we the cops no matter how we handle it are just a bunch of assholes...even the victims call us that as we haul off the abuser in handcuffs. They stand there in front of their kids with the steak over their eye telling their crying kids what a bunch of assholes the cops are for arresting dad...........nevermind she is the one who called. Dont know how I survived 20 yrs of that without going nuts. Good thing I just dealt with street crime for the most part.

My bet is this is mutual to some degree. I think we need to worry about more important stuff- Zimmerman will take care of himself and perhaps this is it for him. Ha we can only hope.

that the cops found SHOULD be seized for evidence. Usually conditions of release (at least in AZ) mandate the accused surrender all firearms to the Sheriff or local PD until trial is over. Sometimes they can retain one (one that was not used in the crime) for self defense if they do not live with the victim and can articulate the need....

Zimm may be able to articulate a need since so many people have supposedly been threatening him over the outcome of the trial.
