France awards Bob Dylan Legion of Honour.

Source: BBC News

The French government has presented US singer Bob Dylan with the country's highest award, the Legion of Honour, in a brief ceremony in Paris.

Presenting him with the award, Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti said he was a hero for young people hungry for justice and independence.

Dylan has famously never liked being used as a spokesman for other people's causes, a BBC correspondent reports.

After the speech, he said simply that he was "proud and grateful" and left.

Bob Dylan to debut iron gates and paintings at London gallery

The rock poet reveals that he has worked around iron his entire life and at the Halcyon Gallery, he'll showcase seven gates he welded, along with original paintings.

By Michael Walsh / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

The poet laureate of rock 'n' roll is tangled up in steel.

Bob Dylan, 72, will debut his ironwork alongside original paintings at an art gallery in London this November.

The Halcyon Gallery announced that the exhibition, Mood Swings, will feature seven iron gates Dylan welded from vintage iron and scrap metal — revealing his lifelong passion for metal work.

"Gates appeal to me because of the negative space they allow," said Dylan in a release. "They can be closed, but at the same time they allow the seasons and breezes to enter and flow. They can shut you out or shut you in. And in some ways there is no difference."

What a life he has led, I sometimes think it is amazing he is still alive. Not sure what kind of abuse he's put his body through but he sure has a lifetime of cigs in him and who knows what else.

Tolling for the searching ones, on their speechless, seeking trail
For the lonesome-hearted lovers with too personal a tale
An’ for each unharmful, gentle soul misplaced inside a jail
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing

Peace
